Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ, ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਲਮੰਦ ਹੈ,

They alone are handsome, clever and wise,

ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

who surrender to the Will of God. ||2||

ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਗਮਨ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ,

Blessed is their coming into this world,

ਜੋ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

if they recognize their Lord and Master in each and every heart. ||3||

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸਦੇ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮ ਹਨ,

Says Nanak, their good fortune is perfect,

ਉਹ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

if they enshrine the Lord's Feet within their minds. ||4||90||159||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਉਪਾਸਕ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਜੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ।

The Lord's servant does not associate with the faithless cynic.

ਉਹ (ਪਹਿਲਾ) ਵਿਸ਼ਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ (ਦੂਜੇ) ਦਾ ਸਾਂਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

One is in the clutches of vice, while the other is in love with the Lord. ||1||Pause||

(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਇੰਜ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਆਲੀ ਸਵਾਰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਘੋੜੀ ਦੀ ਅਸਵਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

It would be like an imaginary rider on a decorated horse,

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕ ਹੀਜੜਾ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਭ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

or a eunuch caressing a woman. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਆਣਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਇਕ ਬਲਦ ਚੋਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

It would be like tying up an ox and trying to milk it,

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਆਦਮੀ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

or riding a cow to chase a tiger. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ, ਬੰਦਾ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਵਰਗੀ ਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

It would be like taking a sheep and worshipping it as the Elysian cow,

ਜਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਬੰਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਸੂਤ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

the giver of all blessings; it would be like going out shopping without any money. ||3||

ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।

O Nanak, consciously meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਤੂੰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ, ਮਾਲਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ।

Meditate in remembrance on the Lord Master, your Best Friend. ||4||91||160||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਉਹ ਅਕਲ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਧੀਰਜਵਾਨ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

Pure and steady is that intellect,

ਜਿਹੜੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਭਰਾ!

which drinks in the Lord's sublime essence. ||1||

ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ,

Keep the Support of the Lord's Feet in your heart,

ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਣ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

and you shall be saved from the cycle of birth and death. ||1||Pause||

ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਬੇਦਾਗ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

Pure is that body, in which sin does not arise.

ਪ੍ਰਭੂਫ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

In the Love of the Lord is pure glory. ||2||

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾਪ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, corruption is eradicated.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਹ ਹੈ।

This is the greatest blessing of all. ||3||

ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਭਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,

Imbued with loving devotional worship of the Sustainer of the Universe,

ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸੇ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak asks for the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||92||161||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਇਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਹੈ,

Such is my love for the Lord of the Universe;

ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤੋਰ ਤੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

through perfect good destiny, I have been united with Him. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,

As the wife is delighted upon beholding her husband,

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

so does the Lord's humble servant live by chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ, ਮਾਂ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

As the mother is rejuvenated upon seeing her son,

ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਫਰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਣੇ-ਪੇਟੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

so is the Lord's humble servant imbued with Him, through and through. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

As the greedy man rejoices upon beholding his wealth,

ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਰੂਪੀ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

so is the mind of the Lord's humble servant attached to His Lotus Feet. ||3||

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਖਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ!

May I never forget You, for even an instant, O Great Giver!

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak's God is the Support of his breath of life. ||4||93||162||

ਗਉੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,

Those humble beings who are accustomed to the Lord's sublime essence,

ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਤਵਲਾ ਦੀ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

are pierced through with loving devotional worship of the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||1||Pause||

ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਸੁਆਹ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ ਮਾਲੂਮ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

All other pleasures look like ashes;

ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਉਣਾ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਹੈ।

without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the world is fruitless. ||1||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕਢਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself rescues us from the deep dark well.

ਅਦਭੁਤ ਹਨ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਪ ਤੇਜ।

Wondrous and Glorious are the Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||2||

ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਜਹਾਨਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਲਮ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।

In the woods and meadows, and throughout the three worlds, the Sustainer of the Universe is pervading.

ਰਚਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।

The Expansive Lord God is Merciful to all beings. ||3||

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਬੋਲ-ਬਾਣੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ,

Says Nanak, that speech alone is excellent,

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

which is approved by the Creator Lord. ||4||94||163||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਰ ਰੋਜ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ।

Every day, take your bath in the Sacred Pool of the Lord.

ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਲਾ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਬਿ-ਹਯਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਕ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Mix and drink in the most delicious, sublime Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ।

The water of the Name of the Lord of the Universe is immaculate and pure.

ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Take your cleansing bath in it, and all your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||
