Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉਠਕੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦਾ-ਪੋਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਬੁਧੂ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਹੈ।

Arising each day, you cherish your body, but you are idiotic, ignorant and without understanding.

ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੇਹਿ) ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਏਗੀ।

You are not conscious of God, and your body shall be cast into the wilderness.

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੁੱਟ।

Focus your consciousness on the True Guru; you shall enjoy bliss forever and ever. ||1||

ਹੈ ਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਬੰਦੇ! ਨੂੰ ਨਫ਼ਾ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਹਿਆ ਸੈਂ।

O mortal, you came here to earn a profit.

ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਫ਼ਜ਼ੂਲ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੁਝਿਆ ਹੈਂ? ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਖਤਮ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

What useless activities are you attached to? Your life-night is coming to its end. ||1||Pause||

ਡੰਗਰ ਤੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਕੁੱਦਦੇ-ਟੱਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦੇ।

The animals and the birds frolic and play-they do not see death.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦਾ (ਵਰਗਾ) ਹੀ ਮਾਣਸ ਜੋ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਦੇ ਫੰਧੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

Mankind is also with them, trapped in the net of Maya.

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਸਮਝੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who always remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are considered to be liberated. ||2||

ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

That dwelling which you will have to abandon and vacate-you are attached to it in your mind.

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ।

And that place where you must go to dwell-you have no regard for it at all.

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀ ਪੈਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਫਾਹੀਂ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who fall at the Feet of the Guru are released from this bondage. ||3||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਬਚਾਅ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ।

No one else can save you-don't look for anyone else.

ਮੈਂ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਖੋਜ-ਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

I have searched in all four directions; I have come to find His Sanctuary.

ਮੈਂ ਡੁਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਸਾਂ, (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ), ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ!

O Nanak, the True King has pulled me out and saved me from drowning! ||4||3||73||

ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਦਮੀ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਪਲ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਹੈ।

For a brief moment, man is a guest of the Lord; he tries to resolve his affairs.

ਪਰ ਬੇਸਮਝ-ਬੰਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਹੈ।

Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand.

ਉਹ ਉਠ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ)ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਫਰੇਸ਼ਤੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He arises and departs with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ||1||

ਹੈ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ)! ਤੂੰ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਢਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਢੇ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

You are sitting on the collapsing riverbank-are you blind?

ਜੇਕਰ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਐਸੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰ।

If you are so pre-destined, then act according to the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||

(ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ) ਵੱਢਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਂ ਕੱਚੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਅੱਧ-ਪੱਕੀ ਜਾਂ ਪੱਕੀ।

The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe.

ਤਿਆਰੀ ਕਰਕੇ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਾਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਢੇ ਪੁੰਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.

ਜਦ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਦਾਰ ਦਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਵੱਢੀ ਤੇ ਮਾਪ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2||

ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਫ਼ਜ਼ੂਲ ਵਿਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ) ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਸੌਦਾਂ ਹੈ!

The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep.

ਤੀਜੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਬੇਹੁੰਦਾ ਬਕਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਚੋਥੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived.

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।

The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind. ||3||

ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਉਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਬਲੀਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I sacrifice my soul to them.

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੇਰੇਂ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਰਬਗ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

Through them, understanding has entered my mind, and I have met the All-knowing Lord God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ, ਸਿਆਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਥ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak sees the Lord always with him-the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||4||74||

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਇਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ।

Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord.

ਸਮੂਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਸਾੜ (ਛਡ) ਕੇ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ-ਮਨੋਰਥ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life.

ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਉਮੀਦਾਂ ਛੱਡਕੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕੋ (ਹਰੀ ਦੀ) ਉਮੀਦ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖ।

Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope.

ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਗਲੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1||

ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰ।

O my mind, praise the Creator.

ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚਤਰਾਈਆਂ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||

ਦਰਦ ਤੇ ਭੁੱਖ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ, ਜੇਕਰ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇ।

Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.

ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਵੱਸ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਨਾਂ-ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect.

ਆਰਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਪਾਪ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਣਗੇ!

Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2||

ਤੇਰਾ ਟਹਿਲੂਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਿਦਮਤ ਦੀ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਆਪਣੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ।

Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.
