ਗਊੜੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Gauree, First Mehl:

ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮੇਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

Past actions cannot be erased.

ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੀ ਬੀਤੇਗੀ?

What do we know of what will happen hereafter?

ਜੋ ਤੁਛ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whatever pleases Him shall come to pass.

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਨਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ।

There is no other Doer except Him. ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿਡੀ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਤੇ ਕਿੱਡਾ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਤੀਆ।

I do not know about karma, or how great Your gifts are.

ਸ਼ੁਭ ਅਮਲ ਮਜਹਬ ਅਤੇ ਉਚੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The karma of actions, the Dharma of righteousness, social class and status, are contained within Your Name. ||1||Pause||

ਤੂੰ ਐਡਾ ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਤੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ,

You are So Great, O Giver, O Great Giver!

ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਘਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।

The treasure of Your devotional worship is never exhausted.

ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

One who takes pride in himself shall never be right.

ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।

The soul and body are all at Your disposal. ||2||

ਤੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

You kill and rejuvenate. You forgive and merge us into Yourself.

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਵਾ।

As it pleases You, You inspire us to chant Your Name.

ਤੂੰ ਸਮੂਹ-ਸਿਆਣਾ ਸਮੂਹ-ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰ, ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈਂ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ!

You are All-knowing, All-seeing and True, O my Supreme Lord.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰਾ ਯਕੀਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

Please, bless me with the Guru's Teachings; my faith is in You alone. ||3||

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਮਲੀਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

One whose mind is attuned to the Lord, has no pollution in his body.

ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਿਞਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Guru's Word, the True Shabad is realized.

ਮੇਰੀ ਸਤਿਆ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ।

All Power is Yours, through the greatness of Your Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak abides in the Sanctuary of Your devotees. ||4||10||

Gauree, First Mehl:

ਜੋ ਅਕਹਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those who speak the Unspoken, drink in the Nectar.

ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਡਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Other fears are forgotten, and they are absorbed into the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਆਪਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੈ ਕਰੀਏ, ਜਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੈ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਅੰਦਰ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Why should we fear, when fear is dispelled by the Fear of God?

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਞਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, I recognize God. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ,

Those whose hearts are filled with the Lord's essence are blessed and acclaimed,

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਯਤਨ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

And intuitively absorbed into the Lord. ||2||

ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਤੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਂ ਛਡਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those whom the Lord puts to sleep, evening and morning

ਏਥੇ ਅਤੇ ਓਥੇ ਮੌਤ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

- those self-willed manmukhs are bound and gagged by Death, here and hereafter. ||3||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਹਨ।

Those whose hearts are filled with the Lord, day and night, are perfect.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, they merge into the Lord, and their doubts are cast away. ||4||11||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Gauree, First Mehl:

ਜੋ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਖ਼ਸਲਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who loves the three qualities is subject to birth and death.

ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਵੇਦ ਕੇਵਲ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਮਾਨ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The four Vedas speak only of the visible forms.

ਉਹ ਤਿੰਨ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਸਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

They describe and explain the three states of mind,

ਚੌਥੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਰੱਬ-ਰੂਪ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

but the fourth state, union with the Lord, is known only through the True Guru. ||1||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਜਰੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through devotional worship of the Lord, and service to the Guru, one swims across.

ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਨਹੀਂ, ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Then, one is not born again, and is not subject to death. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਕੋਈ ਚਾਰ ਉਤਮ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Everyone speaks of the four great blessings;

ਸਤਾਈ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆ ਛੇ ਸਾਸ਼ਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਪੰਡਤ ਭੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

the Simritees, the Shaastras and the Pandits speak of them as well.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਤਲਬ ਤੇ ਅਸਲ ਤਾਤਪਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

But without the Guru, they do not understand their true significance.

ਮੋਖਸ ਸਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

The treasure of liberation is obtained through devotional worship of the Lord. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

Those, within whose hearts the Lord dwells,

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

become Gurmukh; they receive the blessings of devotional worship.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Through devotional worship of the Lord, liberation and bliss are obtained.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Through the Guru's Teachings, supreme ecstasy is obtained. ||3||

ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who meets the Guru, beholds Him, and inspires others to behold Him as well.

ਉਮੈਦਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਮੈਦ-ਰਹਿਤ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਦਰਸਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।

In the midst of hope, the Guru teaches us to live above hope and desire.

ਉਹ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

He is the Master of the meek, the Giver of peace to all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

Nanak's mind is imbued with the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||4||12||

ਗਊੜੀ ਚੇਤੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Gauree Chaytee, First Mehl:

ਹੇ ਦੇਹਿ! ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਮਰ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ।

With your nectar-like body, you live in comfort, but this world is just a passing drama.

ਤੂੰ ਲਾਲਚ ਤਮ੍ਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਘੜੇ ਬੋਝ ਚੁਕਦੀ ਹੈ।

You practice greed, avarice and great falsehood, and you carry such a heavy burden.

ਹੇ ਦੇਹਿ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਸੁਆਹ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਖੱਜਲ-ਖੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ।

O body, I have seen you blowing away like dust on the earth. ||1||

ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵੱਲ ਕੰਨ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ।

Listen - listen to my advice!

ਨੇਕ ਅਮਲ ਕਮਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ! ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਣਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Only the good deeds which you have done shall remain with you, O my soul. This opportunity shall not come again! ||1||Pause||
