ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ. ਤਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ; ਸਿੰਙੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
jaa tudh bhaaveh. taa kareh bibhootaa; singee naad vajaaveh |
ਜਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਹ ਮਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਖ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When it pleases You, we smear our bodies with ashes, and blow the horn and the conch shell.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ. ਤਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ; ਮੁਲਾ ਸੇਖ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ॥
jaa tudh bhaavai. taa parreh katebaa; mulaa sekh kahaaveh |
ਜਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਬੰਦਾ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵਾਚਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When it pleases You, we read the Islamic Scriptures, and are acclaimed as Mullahs and Shaykhs.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ. ਤਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਰਾਜੇ; ਰਸ ਕਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
jaa tudh bhaavai. taa hoveh raaje; ras kas bahut kamaaveh |
ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਤੇ ਸਲੋਨੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we become kings, and enjoy all sorts of tastes and pleasures.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ. ਤੇਗ ਵਗਾਵਹਿ; ਸਿਰ ਮੁੰਡੀ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
jaa tudh bhaavai. teg vagaaveh; sir munddee katt jaaveh |
ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਰਜੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਵਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸੀਸ ਨੂੰ ਧੌਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we wield the sword, and cut off the heads of our enemies.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ. ਜਾਹਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ; ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ॥
jaa tudh bhaavai. jaeh disantar; sun galaa ghar aaveh |
ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਰਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਮਾਲਿਕ! ਲੋਕ ਪਰਾਏ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਗਾਂ ਖਬਰਾਂ ਸਰਵਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we go out to foreign lands; hearing news of home, we come back again.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ. ਨਾਇ ਰਚਾਵਹਿ; ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
jaa tudh bhaavai. naae rachaaveh; tudh bhaane toon bhaaveh |
ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੰਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When it pleases You, we are attuned to the Name, and when it pleases You, we become pleasing to You.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ; ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak ek kahai benantee; hor sagale koorr kamaaveh |1|
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕੀ ਊਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਟੁਰੇ) ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
Nanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||

ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
First Mehl:
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਵਡਾ. ਸਭਿ ਵਡਿਆਂਈਆ; ਚੰਗੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
jaa toon vaddaa. sabh vaddiaaneea; changai changaa hoee |
ਚੂੰਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਹੈਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਰਵਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਭਲਾ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
You are so Great-all Greatness flows from You. You are So Good-Goodness radiates from You.
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਸਚਾ; ਕੂੜਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
jaa toon sachaa taa sabh ko sachaa; koorraa koe na koee |
ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਵਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ। ਝੂਠ ਮੂਲੋ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
You are True-all that flows from You is True. Nothing at all is false.
ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਚਲਣੁ; ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
aakhan vekhan bolan chalan; jeevan maranaa dhaat |
ਕਹਣਾ, ਦੇਖਣਾ, ਉਚਾਰਣਾ, ਤੁਰਨਾ, ਜਿਊਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ!
Talking, seeing, speaking, walking, living and dying-all these are transitory.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਾਜਿ. ਹੁਕਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਖੈ; ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ॥੨॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਮਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਮਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
By the Hukam of His Command, He creates, and in His Command, He keeps us. O Nanak, He Himself is True. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ; ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਐ ॥
satigur sev nisang; bharam chukaaeeai |
ਨਿਧੜਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਿਦਮਤ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
Serve the True Guru fearlessly, and your doubt shall be dispelled.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖੈ ਕਾਰ; ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
satigur aakhai kaar; su kaar kamaaeeai |
ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Do that work which the True Guru asks you to do.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ; ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
satigur hoe deaal; ta naam dhiaaeeai |
ਜੇਕਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ, ਅਸੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
When the True Guru becomes merciful, we meditate on the Naam.
ਲਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੁ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਅਤੇ ਖਰਾ ਮੁਨਾਫਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The profit of devotional worship is excellent. It is obtained by the Gurmukh.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ; ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥

ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਝੂਠ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The self-willed manmukhs are trapped in the darkness of falsehood; they practice nothing but falsehood.
ਸਚੇ ਦੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਇ; ਸਚੁ ਚਵਾਂਈਐ ॥
sache dai dar jaae; sach chavaaneeai |
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਊਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਊਚਾਰਣ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ!
Go to the Gate of Truth, and speak the Truth.
ਸਚੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ; ਸਚਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ॥

ਸਚਿਆਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੰਚ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The True Lord calls the true ones to the Mansion of His Presence.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਚੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ; ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੫॥
naanak. sach sadaa sachiaar; sach samaaeeai |15|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਵਾਦੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the true ones are forever true; they are absorbed in the True Lord. ||15||

Salok, First Mehl:
ਕਲਿ ਕਾਤੀ. ਰਾਜੇ ਕਾਸਾਈ; ਧਰਮੁ. ਪੰਖ ਕਰਿ ਉਡਰਿਆ ॥
kal kaatee. raaje kaasaaee; dharam. pankh kar uddariaa |
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਛੁਰੀ ਹੈ, ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਬੁੱਚੜ ਹਨ, ਸੱਚਾਈ ਪਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਉੱਡ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away.
ਕੂੜੁ ਅਮਾਵਸ. ਸਚੁ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ; ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ. ਕਹ ਚੜਿਆ ॥
koorr amaavas. sach chandramaa; deesai naahee. keh charriaa |
ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਚੰਦ ਕਿਤੇ ਉਦੈ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ।
In this dark night of falsehood, the moon of Truth is not visible anywhere.
ਹਉ ਭਾਲਿ; ਵਿਕੁੰਨੀ ਹੋਈ ॥

ਆਪਣੀ ਖੋਜ ਢੂੰਡ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਂ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
I have searched in vain, and I am so confused;
ਆਧੇਰੈ, ਰਾਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
aadherai, raahu na koee |
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
In this darkness, I cannot find the path.
ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ; ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਈ ॥
vich haumai kar; dukh roee |
ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In egotism, they cry out in pain.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ; ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
kahu naanak; kin bidh gat hoee |1|
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫਰਮਾਊਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੀਵ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
Says Nanak, how will they be saved? ||1||

ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ; ਪਰਗਟੁ. ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥

ਇਸ ਕਾਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਜਗਤ ਲਈ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਹੂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ ਹੈ।
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise has appeared as a Light in the world.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ; ਉਤਰੈ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੋਈਂ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
How rare are those few Gurmukhs who swim across to the other side!
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ; ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
jis no nadar kare; tis devai |
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਊਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord bestows His Glance of Grace;
ਨਾਨਕ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਸੋ ਲੇਵੈ ॥੨॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਊਹ (ਐਸਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ) ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh receives the jewel. ||2||

ਭਗਤਾ ਤੈ ਸੈਸਾਰੀਆ; ਜੋੜੁ. ਕਦੇ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਮੇਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
Between the Lord's devotees and the people of the world, there can never be any true alliance.
ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਹੈ; ਨ ਭੁਲੈ. ਕਿਸੈ ਦਾ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
karataa aap abhul hai; na bhulai. kisai daa bhulaaeaa |
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਖੁਦ ਅਚੂਕ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਹ ਚੌਂਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ।
The Creator Himself is infallible. He cannot be fooled; no one can fool Him.
ਭਗਤ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ; ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
bhagat aape melian; jinee sacho sach kamaaeaa |
ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He blends His devotees with Himself; they practice Truth, and only Truth.
ਸੈਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ; ਜਿਨੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
saisaaree aap khuaaeian; jinee koorr bol bol bikh khaaeaa |
ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਸਤੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਕੂੜ-ਕੁਸੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਬਕਕੇ ਜਹਿਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Lord Himself leads the people of the world astray; they tell lies, and by telling lies, they eat poison.
ਚਲਣ. ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ; ਕਾਮੁ ਕਰੋਧੁ. ਵਿਸੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
chalan. saar na jaananee; kaam karodh. vis vadhaaeaa |
ਉਹ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਆਖਰੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭੋਗ ਤੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਦੀ ਜਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They do not recognize the ultimate reality, that we all must go; they continue to cultivate the poisons of sexual desire and anger.
ਭਗਤ ਕਰਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ; ਜਿਨੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
bhagat karan har chaakaree; jinee anadin naam dhiaaeaa |
ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਜੋ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਬਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The devotees serve the Lord; night and day, they meditate on the Naam.
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ; ਜਿਨੀ. ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
daasan daas hoe kai; jinee. vichahu aap gavaaeaa |
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਗੇਲੇ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਛੱਡਦੇ ਹਨ।
Becoming the slaves of the Lord's slaves, they eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.
ਓਨਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ; ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥
onaa khasamai kai dar mukh ujale; sachai sabad suhaaeaa |16|
ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਕੰਤ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
In the Court of their Lord and Master, their faces are radiant; they are embellished and exalted with the True Word of the Shabad. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Salok, First Mehl:
ਸਬਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ; ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ॥
sabaahee saalaah; jinee dhiaaeaa ik man |
ਜੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੰਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who praise the Lord in the early hours of the morning and meditate on Him single-mindedly,
ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਹ; ਵਖਤੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਲੜਿ ਮੁਏ ॥
seee poore saah; vakhatai upar larr mue |
ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਠੀਕ ਵਕਤ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ-ਨਾਸਕ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਦੇ ਮਰ ਮਿਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
are the perfect kings; at the right time, they die fighting.
ਦੂਜੈ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰਾਹ; ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਮਤੀ ਖਿੰਡੀਆ ॥

ਦੂਸਰੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਘਨੇਰਿਆਂ ਰਸਤਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਖਿਲਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
In the second watch, the focus of the mind is scattered in all sorts of ways.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਏ ਅਸਗਾਹ; ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਹਿ. ਨ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ ॥
bahut pe asagaah; gote khaeh. na nikaleh |
ਘਨੇਰੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਡੁਬਕੀਆਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਸਕਦੇ।
So many fall into the bottomless pit; they are dragged under, and they cannot get out again.
