Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਈ।

I applied the dust of the feet of the Saints to my face.

ਮੇਰੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਬਦਕਿਸਮਤ ਮੰਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ।

My evil-mindedness disappeared, along with my misfortune and false-mindedness.

ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਝੂਠ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

I sit in the true home of my self; I sing His Glorious Praises. O Nanak, my falsehood has vanished! ||4||11||18||

ਮਾਝ, ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਐਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ।

I shall never forget You-You are such a Great Giver!

ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨੀ ਕਰ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਵਾਂ।

Please grant Your Grace, and imbue me with the love of devotional worship.

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਾਂ।

If it pleases You, let me meditate on You day and night; please, grant me this gift! ||1||

ਮੁਰਦਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਗਿਆਤ ਫੂਕੀ ਹੈ।

Into this blind clay, You have infused awareness.

ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਤੇ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

Everything, everywhere which You have given is good.

ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ, ਰੰਗ-ਰਲੀਆਂ, ਅਸਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਪਰਚਾਵਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੋ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Bliss, joyful celebrations, wondrous plays and entertainment-whatever pleases You, comes to pass. ||2||

(ਉਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਕਰਂ) ਜੀਹਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

Everything we receive is a gift from Him

ਛਤੀ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਭੁੰਚਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਤਲਬ ਪਲੰਘ,

-the thirty-six delicious foods to eat,

ਠੰਢੀ ਹਵਾ, ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਰੰਗ-ਰਲੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਮੌਜ ਬਹਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਣਨਾ।

cozy beds, cooling breezes, peaceful joy and the experience of pleasure. ||3||

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਨ ਦੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ।

Give me that state of mind, by which I may not forget You.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਜਿਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਾਂ।

Give me that understanding, by which I may meditate on You.

ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਸਾਈਂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ।

I sing Your Glorious Praises with each and every breath. Nanak takes the Support of the Guru's Feet. ||4||12||19||

ਮਾਝ, ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੇਰਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।

To praise You is to follow Your Command and Your Will.

ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਤੇ ਸੋਚ-ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੈ।

That which pleases You is spiritual wisdom and meditation.

ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਇਲਮ ਹੈ।

That which pleases God is chanting and meditation; to be in harmony with His Will is perfect spiritual wisdom. ||1||

ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

He alone sings Your Ambrosial Naam,

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!

Who is pleasing to Your Mind, O my Lord and Master.

ਤੂੰ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਨ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

You belong to the Saints, and the Saints belong to You. The minds of the Saints are attuned to You, O my Lord and Master. ||2||

ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

You cherish and nurture the Saints.

ਸਾਧੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ!

The Saints play with You, O Sustainer of the World.

ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਡਾਢੇ ਮਿਠੜੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸੁਆਸ ਹੈ।

Your Saints are very dear to You. You are the breath of life of the Saints. ||3||

ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

My mind is a sacrifice to those Saints who know You,

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਞਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

and are pleasing to Your Mind.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਂ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੱਜ ਤੇ ਧ੍ਰਾਪ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

In their company I have found a lasting peace. Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||4||13||20||

ਮਾਝ, ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੱਛੀ ਹਾਂ।

You are the Ocean of Water, and I am Your fish.

ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

Your Name is the drop of water, and I am a thirsty rainbird.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਰੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ (ਅੰਦਰ) ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

You are my hope, and You are my thirst. My mind is absorbed in You. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੱਚਾ ਦੁੱਧ ਛਕ ਕੇ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

Just as the baby is satisfied by drinking milk,

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕ ਗਰੀਬ ਦੌਲਤ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

and the poor person is pleased by seeing wealth,

ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸੀਤਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਤਰੋਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਐਨ ਐਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

and the thirsty person is refreshed by drinking cool water, so is this mind drenched with delight in the Lord. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਰਾਗ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Just as the darkness is lit up by the lamp,

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

and the hopes of the wife are fulfilled by thinking about her husband,

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਐਨ ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

and people are filled with bliss upon meeting their beloved, so is my mind imbued with the Lord's Love. ||3||

ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।

The Saints have set me upon the Lord's Path.

ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਸੰਤ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।

By the Grace of the Holy Saint, I have been attuned to the Lord.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord is mine, and I am the slave of the Lord. O Nanak, the Guru has blessed me with the True Word of the Shabad. ||4||14||21||

ਮਾਝ, ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਮਈ ਨਾਮ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਹੈ।

The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is eternally pure.

ਹਰੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਦਰਦ-ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord is the Giver of Peace and the Dispeller of sorrow.

ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਣ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿਆਮਤ ਸਮੂਹ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਿੱਠੜੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।

I have seen and tasted all other flavors, but to my mind, the Subtle Essence of the Lord is the sweetest of all. ||1||
