ਜਿਨ ਕਉ. ਹੋਆ ਕਿ੍ਰਪਾਲੁ ਹਰਿ; ਸੇ. ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹੀ ॥
jin kau. hoaa kripaal har; se. satigur pairee paahee |
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਗਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those upon whom the Lord showers His Mercy, fall at the Feet of the True Guru.
ਤਿਨ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ; ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧੪॥
tin aithai othai mukh ujale; har daragah paidhe jaahee |14|
ਏਥੇ ਤੇ ਓਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Here and hereafter, their faces are radiant; they go to the Lord's Court in robes of honor. ||14||

ਸਲੋਕ, ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Salok, Second Mehl:
ਜੋ ਸਿਰੁ. ਸਾਂਈ ਨਾ ਨਿਵੈ; ਸੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਡਾਰਿ ॥
jo sir. saanee naa nivai; so sir deejai ddaar |
ਕੱਟ ਦਿਓ ਉਸ ਸੀਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸੀਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਝੁਕਦਾ।
Chop off that head which does not bow to the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਜਿਸੁ ਪਿੰਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਨਹੀ; ਸੋ ਪਿੰਜਰੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak. jis pinjar meh birahaa nahee; so pinjar lai jaar |1|
ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਢਾਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਾੜ ਸੁੱਟ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਨਹੀਂ।
O Nanak, that human body, in which there is no pain of separation from the Lord-take that body and burn it. ||1||

ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Fifth Mehl:
ਮੁੰਢਹੁ ਭੁਲੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮੁਈਆਸੁ ॥
mundtahu bhulee naanakaa; fir fir janam mueeaas |
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜੀਵ ਰੂਪ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਦੀ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Forgetting the Primal Lord, O Nanak, people are born and die, over and over again.
ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਕੈ ਭੋਲੜੈ; ਗੰਦੇ ਡੁੰਮਿ ਪਈਆਸੁ ॥੨॥

ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂਫ਼ਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ, ਉਹ ਪਲੀਤ ਟੋਏ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿਗ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
Mistaking it for musk, they have fallen into the stinking pit of filth. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ. ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ; ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
so aisaa har naam. dhiaaeeai man mere; jo sabhanaa upar hukam chalaae |
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Meditate on that Name of the Lord, O my mind, whose Command rules over all.
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ. ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ; ਜੋ. ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਏ ॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਖ਼ਲਾਸ ਕਰਾਵੇਗੀਂ।
Chant that Name of the Lord, O my mind, which will save you at the very last moment.
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ. ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ; ਜੁ. ਮਨ ਕੀ ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨਾ. ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਐਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੇ ਭੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
Chant that Name of the Lord, O my mind, which shall drive out all hunger and desire from your mind.
ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ; ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੁਸਟ. ਸਭਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
so guramukh naam japiaa vaddabhaagee; tin nindak dusatt. sabh pairee paae |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭਾਰੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਣੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਮੂਹ ਬਦ-ਖੋਆ, ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਲਿਆ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Very fortunate and blessed is that Gurmukh who chants the Naam; it shall bring all slanderers and wicked enemies to fall at his feet.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ. ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ; ਸਭਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਅਗੈ. ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਏ ॥੧੫॥
naanak naam araadh. sabhanaa te vaddaa; sabh naavai agai. aan nivaae |15|
ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਘੁਟਨੇ ਟੇਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
O Nanak, worship and adore the Naam, the Greatest Name of all, before which all come and bow. ||15||

ਸਲੋਕ, ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Salok, Third Mehl:
ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ; ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ॥
ves kare kuroop kulakhanee; man khottai koorriaar |
ਬਦ-ਸ਼ਕਲ ਤੇ ਬਦ-ਚਲਨ ਪਤਨੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਹਿਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਝੂਠੀ ਹੈ।
She may wear good clothes, but the bride is ugly and rude; her mind is false and impure.
ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ. ਨਾ ਚਲੈ; ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਗਾਵਾਰਿ ॥

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੁਰਦੀ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
She does not walk in harmony with the Will of her Husband Lord. Instead, she foolishly gives Him orders.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ; ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਿ ॥
gur kai bhaanai jo chalai; sabh dukh nivaaranahaar |
ਜਿਹੜੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੁਖੜਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
But she who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, shall be spared all pain and suffering.
ਲਿਖਿਆ. ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ; ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥

ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੇ ਐਨ ਆਰੰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਮੇਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
That destiny which was pre-ordained by the Creator cannot be erased.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਕੰਤ ਕਉ; ਸਬਦੇ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
man tan saupe kant kau; sabade dhare piaar |
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਕਰਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਾਉਣੀ ਉਚਿਤ ਹੈ।
She must dedicate her mind and body to her Husband Lord, and enshrine love for the Word of the Shabad.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ. ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ; ਦੇਖਹੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੇਖ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।
Without His Name, no one has found Him; see this and reflect upon it in your heart.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਾ ਸੁਆਲਿਓ ਸੁਲਖਣੀ; ਜਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਚਾਲ ਚੱਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, she is beautiful and graceful; the Creator Lord ravishes and enjoys her. ||1||

ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Third Mehl:
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ; ਤਿਸ ਦਾ. ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ, ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
maaeaa mohu gubaar hai; tis daa. na disai uravaar, na paar |
ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਕਿਨਾਰਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਲਾ ਕਿਨਾਰਾ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦੇ।
Attachment to Maya is an ocean of darkness; neither this shore nor the one beyond can be seen.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ, ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ; ਡੁਬੇ. ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥

ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਮਨ-ਮਤੀਏ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਪਰਮ ਤਕਲਫ਼ਿ ਉਠਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਡੁੱਬ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
The ignorant, self-willed manmukhs suffer in terrible pain; they forget the Lord's Name and drown.
ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ; ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
bhalake utth bahu karam kamaaveh; doojai bhaae piaar |
ਸਵੇਰ ਸਾਰ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਘਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।
They arise in the morning and perform all sorts of rituals, but they are caught in the love of duality.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ; ਭਉਜਲੁ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਘਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭੈ-ਦਾਇਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who serve the True Guru cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ; ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs keep the True Name enshrined in their hearts; they are absorbed into the True One. ||2||

Pauree:
ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ; ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
har jal thal maheeal bharapoor; doojaa naeh koe |
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰਾਂ, ਮਾਰੂਥਲਾਂ, ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰੀ-ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
The Lord pervades and permeates the water, the land and the sky; there is no other at all.
ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ; ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਸਭ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੋਇ ॥
har aap beh kare niaau; koorriaar sabh maar kadtoe |
(ਤਖਤ ਤੇ) ਬੈਠ ਕੇ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਖੁਦ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਝੂਠਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਟ ਫਾਟ ਕੇ, ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord Himself sits upon His Throne and administers justice. He beats and drives out the false-hearted.
ਸਚਿਆਰਾ. ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ; ਹਰਿ. ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਉ ਕੀਓਇ ॥
sachiaaraa. dee vaddiaaee; har. dharam niaau keeoe |
ਸੱਚਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਐਨ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁੱਚਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord bestows glorious greatness upon those who are truthful. He administers righteous justice.
ਸਭ. ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ; ਜਿਨਿ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਨਾਥ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਓਇ ॥

ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰੋ, ਜੋ ਕੰਗਾਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
So praise the Lord, everybody; He protects the poor and the lost souls.
ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਧਰਮੀਆ ਕਾ; ਪਾਪੀ ਕਉ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੀਓਇ ॥੧੬॥
jaikaar keeo dharameea kaa; paapee kau ddandd deeoe |16|
ਉਹ ਨੇਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਨਾਹਗਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He honors the righteous and punishes the sinners. ||16||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ; ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਕੁਨਾਰਿ ॥
manamukh mailee kaamanee; kulakhanee kunaar |
ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੀ ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤ, ਮਲੀਣ, ਬਦ-ਖ਼ਸਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦੀ-ਵਹੁਟੀ ਹੈ।
The self-willed manmukh, the foolish bride, is a filthy, rude and evil wife.
ਪਿਰੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣਾ; ਪਰ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
pir chhoddiaa ghar aapanaa; par purakhai naal piaar |
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਖ਼ਸਮ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਤਜ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਾਏ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ!
Forsaking her Husband Lord and leaving her own home, she gives her love to another.
ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨਾ. ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ; ਜਲਦੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ-ਵੇਗ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਮਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸੜਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਉਚੀ ਕੂਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
Her desires are never satisfied, and she burns and cries out in pain.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ, ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਸੋਹਣੀ; ਪਰਹਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਭਤਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਉਹ ਬਦਨੁਮਾ ਤੇ ਬਦਸ਼ਕਲ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਤ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਤੇ ਛਡ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, without the Name, she is ugly and ungraceful. She is abandoned and left behind by her Husband Lord. ||1||
