ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ; ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਵਾਕਿ ॥
har jeeo sabad pachhaaneeai; saach rate gur vaak |
ਨਾਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਞਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Shabad, they recognize the Dear Lord; through the Guru's Word, they are attuned to Truth.
ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ. ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ; ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਓਤਾਕੁ ॥

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਮਲੀਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੰਬੜਦੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Filth does not stick to the body of one who has secured a dwelling in his True Home.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ; ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ. ਕਿਆ ਸਾਕੁ ॥੫॥

ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਧਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਦਾ ਕੌਣ ਸਾਕ-ਸੈਨ ਹੈ?
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, we obtain the True Name. Without the Name, who are our relatives? ||5||
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ; ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
jinee sach pachhaaniaa; se sukhee jug chaar |
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਚਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖਾਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who have realized the Truth are at peace throughout the four ages.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ; ਸਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
haumai trisanaa maar kai; sach rakhiaa ur dhaar |
ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Subduing their egotism and desires, they keep the True Name enshrined in their hearts.
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ; ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੬॥
jag meh laahaa ek naam; paaeeai gur veechaar |6|
ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਫ਼ਾ ਖਟਣਾ ਉਚਿਤ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੋਚ-ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In this world, the only real profit is the Name of the One Lord; it is earned by contemplating the Guru. ||6||
ਸਾਚਉ ਵਖਰੁ ਲਾਦੀਐ; ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
saachau vakhar laadeeai; laabh sadaa sach raas |
ਜੋ ਸਚਾਈ ਦੇ ਧਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਸੂਤ ਬਾਰ ਕਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਹੀ ਨਫ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Loading the Merchandise of the True Name, you shall gather in your profits forever with the Capital of Truth.
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਈ; ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
saachee daragah baisee; bhagat sachee aradaas |
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Court of the True One, you shall sit in truthful devotion and prayer.
ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਿਬੜੈ; ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੭॥

ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਬਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Your account shall be settled with honor, in the Radiant Light of the Name of the Lord. ||7||
ਊਚਾ ਊਚਉ ਆਖੀਐ; ਕਹਉ. ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
aoochaa aoochau aakheeai; khau. na dekhiaa jaae |
ਬੁਲੰਦਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਰਮ-ਬੁਲੰਦ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
The Lord is said to be the Highest of the High; no one can perceive Him.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
jeh dekhaa teh ek toon; satigur deea dikhaae |
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Wherever I look, I see only You. The True Guru has inspired me to see You.
ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ; ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੮॥੩॥
jot nirantar jaaneeai; naanak sehaj subhaae |8|3|
ਨਾਨਕ, ਰੱਬੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਨੂਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Divine Light within is revealed, O Nanak, through this intuitive understanding. ||8||3||

ਮਛੁਲੀ. ਜਾਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ; ਸਰੁ ਖਾਰਾ ਅਸਗਾਹੁ ॥
machhulee. jaal na jaaniaa; sar khaaraa asagaahu |
ਮੱਛੀ ਨੇ ਨਮਕੀਨ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਫੰਧੇ ਵਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
The fish did not notice the net in the deep and salty sea.
ਅਤਿ ਸਿਆਣੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ; ਕਿਉ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥

ਖਰੀ ਚਲਾਕ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮੰਛੀ ਨੇ ਐਨਾ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੀਤਾ?
It was so clever and beautiful, but why was it so confident?
ਕੀਤੇ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪਾਕੜੀ; ਕਾਲੁ. ਨ ਟਲੈ ਸਿਰਾਹੁ ॥੧॥
keete kaaran paakarree; kaal. na ttalai siraahu |1|
ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮ (ਭੁਲ) ਦੇ ਸਬੱਬ ਉਹ ਪਕੜੀ ਗਈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਪਰੇ ਹਟਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
By its actions it was caught, and now death cannot be turned away from its head. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ; ਇਉ ਸਿਰਿ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
bhaaee re; iau sir jaanahu kaal |
ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਡ ਉਤੇ ਮੰਡਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰ।
O Siblings of Destiny, just like this, see death hovering over your own heads!
ਜਿਉ ਮਛੀ. ਤਿਉ ਮਾਣਸਾ; ਪਵੈ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jiau machhee. tiau maanasaa; pavai achintaa jaal |1| rahaau |
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਛਲੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ। ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿਗਦੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
People are just like this fish; unaware, the noose of death descends upon them. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧੋ ਕਾਲ ਕੋ; ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ. ਕਾਲੁ ਅਫਾਰੁ ॥
sabh jag baadho kaal ko; bin gur. kaal afaar |
ਸਾਰਾ ਜਹਾਨ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਨਰੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਅਮੋੜ ਹੈ।
The whole world is bound by death; without the Guru, death cannot be avoided.
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ. ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ; ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
sach rate. se ubare; dubidhaa chhodd vikaar |
ਜੋ ਸੱਚ, ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who are attuned to Truth are saved; they renounce duality and corruption.
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ; ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ॥੨॥
hau tin kai balihaaranai; dar sachai sachiaar |2|
ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
I am a sacrifice to those who are found to be Truthful in the True Court. ||2||
ਸੀਚਾਨੇ ਜਿਉ ਪੰਖੀਆ; ਜਾਲੀ ਬਧਿਕ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
seechaane jiau pankheea; jaalee badhik haath |
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਲ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਹਨ, (ਏਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਹੈ)।
Think of the hawk preying on the birds, and the net in the hands of the hunter.
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ. ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ; ਹੋਰਿ ਫਾਥੇ ਚੋਗੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
gur raakhe. se ubare; hor faathe chogai saath |
ਉਹ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਚੋਗੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who are protected by the Guru are saved; the others are caught by the bait.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ. ਚੁਣਿ ਸੁਟੀਅਹਿ; ਕੋਇ. ਨ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਥਿ ॥੩॥

ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਦੋਸਤ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਤੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਰਹਿਤ ਚੁਗ ਕੇ ਪਰੇ ਵਗਾਹ ਦਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Without the Name, they are picked up and thrown away; they have no friends or companions. ||3||
ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਆਖੀਐ; ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
sacho sachaa aakheeai; sache sachaa thaan |
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਚਿਆਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ-ਸਚਿਆਰ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ।
God is said to be the Truest of the True; His Place is the Truest of the True.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ; ਤਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
jinee sachaa maniaa; tin man sach dhiaan |
ਸੱਚਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਤਾਬੇਦਾਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who obey the True One-their minds abide in true meditation.
ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਚੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੪॥
man mukh sooche jaaneeeh; guramukh jinaa giaan |4|
ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
Those who become Gurmukh, and obtain spiritual wisdom-their minds and mouths are known to be pure. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰਿ; ਸਾਜਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
satigur agai aradaas kar; saajan dee milaae |
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਣ।
Offer your most sincere prayers to the True Guru, so that He may unite you with your Best Friend.
ਸਾਜਨਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ; ਜਮਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
saajan miliai sukh paaeaa; jamadoot mue bikh khaae |
ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Meeting your Best Friend, you shall find peace; the Messenger of Death shall take poison and die.
ਨਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹਉ ਵਸਾਂ; ਨਾਉ ਵਸੈ. ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੫॥

ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
I dwell deep within the Name; the Name has come to dwell within my mind. ||5||
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ. ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ; ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ. ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
baajh guroo. gubaar hai; bin sabadai. boojh na paae |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ-ਘੁੱਪ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਸਮਝ ਸੋਚ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
Without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness; without the Shabad, understanding is not obtained.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ; ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰੱਬੀ-ਨੂਰ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਨੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Guru's Teachings, you shall be enlightened; remain absorbed in the Love of the True Lord.
ਤਿਥੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸੰਚਰੈ; ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੬॥
tithai kaal na sancharai; jotee jot samaae |6|
ਉਥੇ ਮੌਤ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ (ਆਤਮਾ) ਵਡੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Death does not go there; your light shall merge with the Light. ||6||
ਤੂੰਹੈ ਸਾਜਨੁ. ਤੂੰ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ; ਤੂੰ. ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
toonhai saajan. toon sujaan; toon. aape melanahaar |
ਤੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਯਾਰ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
You are my Best Friend; You are All-knowing. You are the One who unites us with Yourself.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ; ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
gurasabadee saalaaheeai; ant na paaraavaar |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਤਾਬੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਨਾ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਓੜਕ, ਇਹ ਜਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਨਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we praise You; You have no end or limitation.
ਤਿਥੈ. ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਅਪੜੈ; ਜਿਥੈ. ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
tithai. kaal na aparrai; jithai. gur kaa sabad apaar |7|
ਮੌਤ ਉਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁਜਦੀ, ਜਿਥੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ।
Death does not reach that place, where the Infinite Word of the Guru's Shabad resounds. ||7||
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਭੇ ਊਪਜਹਿ; ਹੁਕਮੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
hukamee sabhe aoopajeh; hukamee kaar kamaeh |
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅਮਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਮਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮੁਖ਼ਤਲਿਫ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
By the Hukam of His Command, all are created. By His Command, actions are performed.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਕਾਲੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ; ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
hukamee kaalai vas hai; hukamee saach samaeh |
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਤਾਬੇ ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਤਾਬੇ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ-ਸਾਈਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
By His Command, all are subject to death; by His Command, they merge in Truth.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ; ਇਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ. ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੮॥੪॥
naanak. jo tis bhaavai so theeai; inaa jantaa. vas kichh naeh |8|4|
ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ।
O Nanak, whatever pleases His Will comes to pass. Nothing is in the hands of these beings. ||8||4||

ਮਨਿ ਜੂਠੈ. ਤਨਿ ਜੂਠਿ ਹੈ; ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
man jootthai. tan jootth hai; jihavaa jootthee hoe |
ਜੋ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਦੇਹਿ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜ਼ਬਾਨ।
If the mind is polluted, then the body is polluted, and the tongue is polluted as well.
