ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Siree Raag, First Mehl, Third House:

ਨੇਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਖੇਤ ਬਣਾ ਬੀ ਤੂੰ ਬਣਾ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸਿੰਜ।

Make good deeds the soil, and let the Word of the Shabad be the seed; irrigate it continually with the water of Truth.

ਕਿਸਾਨ ਬਣ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਉਗ ਪਏਗੀ। ਹੈ ਮੂਰਖ! ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਤੇ ਨਰਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ।

Become such a farmer, and faith will sprout. This brings knowledge of heaven and hell, you fool! ||1||

ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਕੰਤ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ।

Do not think that your Husband Lord can be obtained by mere words.

ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਹਮਕ-ਦਮਕ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇਸ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

You are wasting this life in the pride of wealth and the splendor of beauty. ||1||Pause||

ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਪ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਡੱਡੂ, ਜੋ ਕੰਵਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ।

The defect of the body which leads to sin is the mud puddle, and this mind is the frog, which does not appreciate the lotus flower at all.

ਗੁਰੂ, ਭੌਰਾ, ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਨ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦਾ।

The bumble bee is the teacher who continually teaches the lesson. But how can one understand, unless one is made to understand? ||2||

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਧਰਮ ਵਾਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਾਰਨਾ, ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਹਵਾ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

This speaking and listening is like the song of the wind, for those whose minds are colored by the love of Maya.

ਆਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਕੰਤ ਉਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਵਰਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Grace of the Master is bestowed upon those who meditate on Him alone. They are pleasing to His Heart. ||3||

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰੀਹ (ਰੋਜ਼ੇ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ (ਨਮਾਜ਼ਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਖ਼ਬਰਦਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾ ਮਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਹੈ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ।

You may observe the thirty fasts, and say the five prayers each day, but 'Satan' can undo them.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ) ਰਸਤੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ?

Says Nanak, you will have to walk on the Path of Death, so why do you bother to collect wealth and property? ||4||27||

ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Siree Raag, First Mehl, Fourth House:

ਉਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਸਬਜ਼ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

He is the Master who has made the world bloom; He makes the Universe blossom forth, fresh and green.

ਸਾਬਾਸ਼ ਹੈ! ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

He holds the water and the land in bondage. Hail to the Creator Lord! ||1||

ਮੌਤ, ਹੇ ਮੇਲਵੀ! ਮੌਤ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਆਏਗੀ।

Death, O Mullah-death will come,

ਤਾਹਮ, ਸਾਜਣ-ਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹੁ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

so live in the Fear of God the Creator. ||1||Pause||

ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

You are a Mullah, and you are a Qazi, only when you know the Naam, the Name of God.

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜਦ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਪੜੋਪੀ ਲਬਾਲਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਏਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਠਹਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

You may be very educated, but no one can remain when the measure of life is full. ||2||

ਉਹੀ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

He alone is a Qazi, who renounces selfishness and conceit, and makes the One Name his Support.

ਸੱਚਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈ, ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਭੀ, ਉਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

The True Creator Lord is, and shall always be. He was not born; He shall not die. ||3||

ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜ ਵਾਰੀ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਵਾਚਦਾ ਹੈ।

You may chant your prayers five times each day; you may read the Bible and the Koran.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਬਰ ਸਦੱਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਾਦਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਮੁਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Says Nanak, the grave is calling you, and now your food and drink are finished. ||4||28||

ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ।

Siree Raag, First Mehl, Fourth House:

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਥ ਇਕ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੋ ਕੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

The dogs of greed are with me.

ਸੁਬ੍ਹਾ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਕਦੇਂ ਹਨ।

In the early morning, they continually bark at the wind.

ਝੂਠ ਮੇਰੀ ਖ਼ੰਜਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਠੱਗ ਕੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਲਾਸ਼ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ।

Falsehood is my dagger; through deception, I eat the carcasses of the dead.

ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੈ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ!

I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ (ਮਾਲਕ) ਦੀ ਨਸੀਹਤ ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਨੇਕ ਅਮਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

I have not followed good advice, nor have I done good deeds.

ਮੈਂ ਕਰੂਪ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।

I am deformed and horribly disfigured.

ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Your Name alone, Lord, saves the world.

ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

This is my hope; this is my support. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਬਦਖੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

With my mouth I speak slander, day and night.

ਮੈਂ ਕਮੀਨਾ ਤੇ ਅਦਨਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਤਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

I spy on the houses of others-I am such a wretched low-life!

ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਭੋਗ ਤੇ ਰੋਹ, ਕਮੀਣ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੇਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Unfulfilled sexual desire and unresolved anger dwell in my body, like the outcasts who cremate the dead.

ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ!

I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||2||

ਦੇਖਣ ਪਾਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਰੀਫ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਨੀਅਤ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਹੁਣ ਦੀ ਹੈ।

I make plans to trap others, although I appear gentle.

ਮੈਂ ਠੱਗ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਲਕ (ਦੁਨੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

I am a robber-I rob the world.

ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਚਾਲਾਕ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਬੋਝ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

I am very clever-I carry loads of sin.

ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ!

I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||3||

ਮੈਂ ਪਰਾਇਆ-ਮਾਲ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ, ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਨੇਕੀ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ।

I have not appreciated what You have done for me, Lord; I take from others and exploit them.

ਮੈਂ ਲੁੱਚਾ ਤਸਕਰ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਦਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ?

What face shall I show You, Lord? I am a sneak and a thief.

ਨੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak describes the state of the lowly.

ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ!

I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||4||29||

ਸਮੂਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਅੰਤ੍ਰੀਵੀ-ਗਿਆਤ ਹੈ।

There is one awareness among all created beings.

ਅੰਤ੍ਰੀਵੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

None have been created without this awareness.
