Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਹਿਰਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਿੰਧਿਆਈ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀ-ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ।

The mind is overflowing with the greasy dirt of egotistical pride.

ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘੂੜ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਂਜ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਫ ਸੁਥਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

With the dust of the feet of the Holy, it is scrubbed clean. ||1||

ਕਈ ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੇਕਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਧੋਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ,

The body may be washed with loads of water,

ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਗਿਲਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਫ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

and yet its filth is not removed, and it does not become clean. ||2||

ਮੈਂ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ,

I have met the True Guru, who is merciful forever.

ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

Meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, I am rid of the fear of death. ||3||

ਮੋਖ਼ਸ਼, ਨਿਆਮ੍ਹਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ-ਸਿਧਤਾ ਸਭ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।

Liberation, pleasures and worldly success are all in the Lord's Name.

ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।

With loving devotional worship, O Nanak, sing His Glorious Praises. ||4||100||169||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਅਮਰ-ਮਰਤਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Lord's slaves attain the highest status of life.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Meeting them, the soul is enlightened. ||1||

ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ,

Those who listen with their mind and ears to the Lord's meditative remembrance,

ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਹੈ ਫਾਨੀ ਬੰਦੇ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

are blessed with peace at the Lord's Gate, O mortal. ||1||Pause||

ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ-ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ।

Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on the Sustainer of the World.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਤੱਕਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, gazing on the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I am enraptured. ||2||101||170||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ-ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

Peace and tranquility have come; the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, has brought it.

ਮੇਰੀ ਜਲਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The burning sins have departed, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭਾ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰ।

With your tongue, continually chant the Lord's Name.

ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਜਹਿਮਤਾ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

Disease shall depart, and you shall be saved. ||1||

ਅਖੋਜ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰ।

Contemplate the Glorious Virtues of the Unfathomable Supreme Lord God.

ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be emancipated. ||2||

ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Sing the Glories of God each and every day;

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੱਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

your afflictions shall be dispelled, and you shall be saved, my humble friend. ||3||

ਖਿਆਲ, ਬਚਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

In thought, word and deed, I meditate on my God.

ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ!

Slave Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary. ||4||102||171||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਰੱਬ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

The Divine Guru has opened his eyes.

ਮੇਰੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੌੜ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਘਾਲ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Doubt has been dispelled; my service has been successful. ||1||Pause||

ਚੀਚਕ ਤੋਂ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

The Giver of joy has saved him from smallpox.

ਉੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

The Supreme Lord God has granted His Grace. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, he alone lives, who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, drink deeply of the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar. ||2||103||172||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਜੰਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੱਥਾ (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਿਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਅਤੇ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ) ਤੇਰੇ (ਦੀਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!)।

Blessed is that forehead, and blessed are those eyes;

ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਧੂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ।

blessed are those devotees who are in love with You. ||1||

ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਆਰਾਮ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how anyone find peace?

ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

With your tongue, chant the Praises of the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

Nanak is a sacrifice to those

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

who meditate on the Lord of Nirvaanaa. ||2||104||173||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੰਗ ਹੈ।

You are my Advisor; You are always with me.

ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

You preserve, protect and care for me. ||1||

ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈ।

Such is the Lord, our Help and Support in this world and the next.

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਲੱਜਿਆ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

He protects the honor of His slave, O my Sibling of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਅਖਤਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ।

He alone exists hereafter; this place is in His Power.

ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ, ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ! ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ।

Twenty-four hours a day, O my mind, chant and meditate on the Lord. ||2||

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ,

His honor is acknowledged, and he bears the True Insignia;

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖੁਦ ਹੁਕਮ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

the Lord Himself issues His Royal Command. ||3||

ਠਾਕੁਰ-ਖੁਦ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਣ-ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ।

He Himself is the Giver; He Himself is the Cherisher.

ਹਰ ਰੋਜ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।

Continually, continuously, O Nanak, dwell upon the Name of the Lord. ||4||105||174||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀ।

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,

When the Perfect True Guru becomes merciful,

ਤਾਂ ਆਲਮ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਰਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

the Lord of the World abides in the heart forever. ||1||

ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

Meditating on the Lord, I have found eternal peace.
