Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਉਹ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ,

He is pleased at the sight of his elephants and horses

ਤੇ ਸੈਨਾ ਦੇ ਸਮੁਦਾਇ, ਚੋਬਦਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਕਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ।

and his armies assembled, his servants and his soldiers.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਇਹ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਰੱਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਫਾਹੀ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ ਹਨ।

But the noose of egotism is tightening around his neck. ||2||

ਸਮੂਹ ਦਸਾ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕਰਨੀ,

His rule may extend in all ten directions;

ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹਾਰਾ ਲੁਟਣੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਘਨੇਰੀਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਮਾਨਣੀਆਂ,

he may revel in pleasures, and enjoy many women

ਇਹ ਇਕ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਨਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹੈ।

- but he is just a beggar, who in his dream, is a king. ||3||

ਇਕ ਸੁਖ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਦਰਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

The True Guru has shown me that there is only one pleasure.

ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਜਾਨਿਸਾਰ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whatever the Lord does, is pleasing to the Lord's devotee.

ਆਪਣੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਸ ਕੇ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Servant Nanak has abolished his ego, and he is absorbed in the Lord. ||4||

ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਪਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ!

This is the way to find happiness, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਏਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ।

This is the way to find the Lord, our Help and Support. ||1||Second Pause||

ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ।

Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਿਉਂ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਕਰੀਏ? ਕਾਹਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ?

Why do you doubt? What do you doubt?

ਜਦ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪਾਣੀ, ਸੁੱਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਮੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

God is pervading the water, the land and the sky.

ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਲ-ਮਤੀਏ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜਤ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Gurmukhs are saved, while the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who is protected by the Merciful Lord

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

- no one else can rival him. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

The Infinite One is pervading among all.

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਬੇਫਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸੌ ਜਾਂ।

So sleep in peace, and don't worry.

ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

He knows everything which happens. ||2||

ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰੇਹਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

The self-willed manmukhs are dying in the thirst of duality.

ਉਹ ਬੜੇ ਜਨਮਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਮੁਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਐਸੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

They wander lost through countless incarnations; this is their pre-ordained destiny.

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਹ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਖਾਣਗੇ।

As they plant, so shall they harvest. ||3||

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਖਿੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my mind has blossomed forth.

ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

And now everywhere I look, God is revealed to me.

ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਅਭਿਲਾਸ਼ਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।

Servant Nanak's hopes have been fulfilled by the Lord. ||4||2||71||

ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ।

Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਕੀੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੈਂ।

In so many incarnations, you were a worm and an insect;

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਥੀ ਮੱਛੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਨ ਸੈਂ।

in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੰਛੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਪ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੈਂ।

In so many incarnations, you were a bird and a snake.

ਕਈ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਘੋੜਾ ਤੇ ਬਲਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੋਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੈਂ।

In so many incarnations, you were yoked as an ox and a horse. ||1||

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ। ਇਹ ਹੈ ਵੇਲਾ ਜੁੜਨ ਦਾ।

Meet the Lord of the Universe - now is the time to meet Him.

ਬੜੀ ਦੇਰ ਦੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ-ਕਾਇਆ ਸਾਜੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

After so very long, this human body was fashioned for you. ||1||Pause||

ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਚਿਟਾਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੈਂ।

In so many incarnations, you were rocks and mountains;

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਬੱਚੇਦਾਨੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਚਾ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਿਆ ਸੈ।

in so many incarnations, you were aborted in the womb;

ਕਈਆਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਟਹਿਣੀ (ਬਨਸਪਤੀ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੈਂ।

in so many incarnations, you developed branches and leaves;

ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭਟਕਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

you wandered through 8.4 million incarnations. ||2||

ਸਤਿ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ-ਜੀਵਨ ਹੱਥ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you obtained this human life.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਤਾਬੇ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ।

Do seva - selfless service; follow the Guru's Teachings, and vibrate the Lord's Name, Har, Har.

ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਆਕੜ ਮੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਦੇ।

Abandon pride, falsehood and arrogance.

ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਮਰ ਕੇ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

Remain dead while yet alive, and you shall be welcomed in the Court of the Lord. ||3||

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ।

Whatever has been, and whatever shall be, comes from You, Lord.

ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ।

No one else can do anything at all.

ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਵੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

We are united with You, when You unite us with Yourself.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।

Says Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||72||

ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ।

Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:

ਅਮਲਾ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਬੀਜ।

In the field of karma, plant the seed of the Naam.

ਤੇਰਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

Your works shall be brought to fruition.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

You shall obtain these fruits, and the fear of death shall be dispelled.

ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਮਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।

Sing continually the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰਖ,

Keep the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, enshrined in your heart,

ਅਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਲੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

and your affairs shall be quickly resolved. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਆਰ-ਬਰ-ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹੁ।

Be always attentive to your God;

ਤਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

thus you shall be honored in His Court.
