ਸੁਣਹਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਜੇਤੜੇ; ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
suneh vakhaaneh jetarre; hau tin balihaarai jaau |
ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਵਾਰਣੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਹੜੇ (ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ) ਸਰਵਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
I am a sacrifice to those who hear and chant the True Name.
ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਖੀਵਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ; ਜਾ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥
taa man kheevaa jaaneeai; jaa mahalee paae thaau |2|
ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਸ਼ਈ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only one who obtains a room in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is deemed to be truly intoxicated. ||2||
ਨਾਉ ਨੀਰੁ. ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ; ਸਤੁ ਪਰਮਲੁ. ਤਨਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥

ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਈਮਾਨਦਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਚੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਗਧੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਲ,
Bathe in the waters of Goodness and apply the scented oil of Truth to your body,
ਤਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਜਲਾ; ਲਖ ਦਾਤੀ. ਇਕ ਦਾਤਿ ॥

ਤਦ ਤੇਰਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬਖਸ਼ੀਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਇਕ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਹੈ।
and your face shall become radiant. This is the gift of 100,000 gifts.
ਦੂਖ. ਤਿਸੈ ਪਹਿ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ; ਸੂਖ. ਜਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਆਰਾਮ ਹਨ।
Tell your troubles to the One who is the Source of all comfort. ||3||
ਸੋ. ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ; ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਣ ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਈਏ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
How can you forget the One who created your soul, and the praanaa, the breath of life?
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਣੁ. ਸਭੁ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੈ; ਜੇਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਣੁ ॥
tis vin. sabh apavitru hai; jetaa painan khaan |
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਲੀਨ ਹਨ।
Without Him, all that we wear and eat is impure.
ਹੋਰਿ ਗਲਾਂ ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੀਆ; ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੫॥
hor galaan sabh koorreea; tudh bhaavai paravaan |4|5|
ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਾਤਾਂ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ!) ਉਹ ਹੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Everything else is false. Whatever pleases Your Will is acceptable. ||4||5||

ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਸੁੱਟ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਪੀਹ ਕੇ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਬਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਨੂੰ ਵਧੀਆ ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਕਰ।
Burn emotional attachment, and grind it into ink. Transform your intelligence into the purest of paper.
ਭਾਉ ਕਲਮ ਕਰਿ. ਚਿਤੁ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ; ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ. ਲਿਖੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਲੇਖਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਲੇਖਕ ਬਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖ।
Make the love of the Lord your pen, and let your consciousness be the scribe. Then, seek the Guru's Instructions, and record these deliberations.
ਲਿਖੁ ਨਾਮੁ. ਸਾਲਾਹ ਲਿਖੁ; ਲਿਖੁ. ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
likh naam. saalaah likh; likh. ant na paaraavaar |1|
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਲਿਖ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਲਿਖ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਖੀਰ ਤੇ ਓੜਕ ਨਹੀਂ।
Write the Praises of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; write over and over again that He has no end or limitation. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ. ਏਹੁ ਲੇਖਾ; ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥

ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਇਸ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖਣਾ ਸਿੱਖ,
O Baba, write such an account,
ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ; ਤਿਥੈ ਹੋਇ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jithai lekhaa mangeeai; tithai hoe sachaa neesaan |1| rahaau |
ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਜਿਥੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ, ਉਥੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਹੋਵੇ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
that when it is asked for, it will bring the Mark of Truth. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਥੈ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ; ਸਦ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਸਦ ਚਾਉ ॥
jithai mileh vaddiaaeea; sad khuseea sad chaau |
ਜਿਥੇ ਇਜ਼ਤਾਂ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
There, where greatness, eternal peace and everlasting joy are bestowed,
ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ. ਟਿਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ; ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
tin mukh. ttike nikaleh; jin man sachaa naau |
ਉਥੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿਹਿਰਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਣ-ਪ੍ਰਤਿਸ਼ਟਾ ਦੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
the faces of those whose minds are attuned to the True Name are anointed with the Mark of Grace.
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ; ਨਾਹੀ ਗਲੀ ਵਾਉ ਦੁਆਉ ॥੨॥
karam milai taa paaeeai; naahee galee vaau duaau |2|
ਜੇਕਰ ਬੰਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਐਸੀਆਂ ਇਜ਼ਤਾਂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਹਲੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ।
If one receives God's Grace, then such honors are received, and not by mere words. ||2||
ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ. ਇਕਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਉਠਿ; ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਵ ਸਲਾਰ ॥

ਕਈ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਖੜੇ ਹੋ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਖਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some come, and some arise and depart. They give themselves lofty names.
ਇਕਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਮੰਗਤੇ; ਇਕਨਾ ਵਡੇ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥

ਕਈ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਭਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਚਹਿਰੀਆਂ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some are born beggars, and some hold vast courts.
ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਜਾਣੀਐ; ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ. ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥੩॥

ਅੱਗੇ ਪੁਜ ਕੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਨਿਕੰਮਾ ਹੈ।
Going to the world hereafter, everyone shall realize that without the Name, it is all useless. ||3||
ਭੈ ਤੇਰੈ. ਡਰੁ ਅਗਲਾ; ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਛਿਜੈ ਦੇਹ ॥
bhai terai. ddar agalaa; khap khap chhijai deh |
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਤ੍ਰਾਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸਹਿਮਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ, (ਹੇ ਸਾਈਂ!) ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੌ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
I am terrified by the Fear of You, God. Bothered and bewildered, my body is wasting away.
ਨਾਵ ਜਿਨਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਖਾਨ; ਹੋਦੇ ਡਿਠੇ ਖੇਹ ॥
naav jinaa sulataan khaan; hode dditthe kheh |
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ।
Those who are known as sultans and emperors shall be reduced to dust in the end.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ; ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੇ ਤੁਟੇ ਨੇਹ ॥੪॥੬॥

O Nanak, arising and departing, all false attachments are cut away. ||4||6||

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਤਾਬੇਦਾਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਿੱਠੜੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਰਵਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਲੂਣੇ,
Believing, all tastes are sweet. Hearing, the salty flavors are tasted;
ਖਟ ਤੁਰਸੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਣਾ; ਮਾਰਣ ਨਾਦ ਕੀਏ ॥
khatt turasee mukh bolanaa; maaran naad kee |
ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨਾ ਖਟ-ਮਿਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਸਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
chanting with one's mouth, the spicy flavors are savored. All these spices have been made from the Sound-current of the Naad.
ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤ ਭਾਉ ਏਕੁ; ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
chhateeh amrit bhaau ek; jaa kau nadar karee |1|
ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਛਤੀ ਪਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਧਾ ਰਸ ਰਸੀਲੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ-ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The thirty-six flavors of ambrosial nectar are in the Love of the One Lord; they are tasted only by one who is blessed by His Glance of Grace. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ. ਹੋਰੁ ਖਾਣਾ; ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥

ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਤਬਾਹਕੁਨ ਹੈ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਭੋਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ,
O Baba, the pleasures of other foods are false.
ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ. ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ; ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit khaadhai. tan peerreeai; man meh chaleh vikaar |1| rahaau |
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦੇਹ ਕੁਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Eating them, the body is ruined, and wickedness and corruption enter into the mind. ||1||Pause||
ਰਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ. ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ; ਸੁਪੇਦੀ. ਸਤੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
rataa painan. man rataa; supedee. sat daan |
ਚਿੱਤ ਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ) ਰੰਗੀਜਣਾ ਸੂਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਚਾਈ ਤੇ ਸਖਾਵਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਚਿੱਟੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਹੈ।
My mind is imbued with the Lord's Love; it is dyed a deep crimson. Truth and charity are my white clothes.
ਨੀਲੀ. ਸਿਆਹੀ ਕਦਾ ਕਰਣੀ; ਪਹਿਰਣੁ. ਪੈਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥

ਪਾਪ ਦੀ ਕਾਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਬੂਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਸਮਾਨੀ ਕਪੜੇ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਖਿੱਲ੍ਹਅਤ।
Erasing the blackness of sin is my wearing of blue clothes, and meditation on the Lord's Lotus Feet is my robe of honor.
ਕਮਰਬੰਦੁ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਾ; ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ. ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥

ਸਬਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਮਰਕਸਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ (ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ!) ਮੇਰੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਜੁਆਨੀ।
Contentment is my cummerbund, Your Name is my wealth and youth. ||2||

ਘੋੜੇ ਪਾਖਰ, ਸੁਇਨੇ ਸਾਖਤਿ; ਬੂਝਣੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਾਟ ॥
ghorre paakhar, sueine saakhat; boojhan teree vaatt |
ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਹ ਦਾ ਜਾਨਣਾ, (ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਅਸਵ, ਕਾਠੀ ਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਦੁਮਚੀ ਹੈ।
The understanding of Your Way, Lord, is horses, saddles and bags of gold for me.
ਤਰਕਸ ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਣ ਸਾਂਗ; ਤੇਗਬੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
tarakas teer kamaan saang; tegaband gun dhaat |
ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਮਗਰ ਦੌੜਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਭੱਬਾ, ਬਾਣ ਧਨੁੱਖ, ਬਰਛਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਗਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੈ।
The pursuit of virtue is my bow and arrow, my quiver, sword and scabbard.
ਵਾਜਾ ਨੇਜਾ. ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਗਟੁ; ਕਰਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ. ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ॥੩॥
