Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਮੁਜ਼ਾਹਰਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The fools perform devotional worship by showing off;

ਉਹ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਕੁੱਦਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਘਣੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

they dance and dance and jump all around, but they only suffer in terrible pain.

ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਕੁੱਦਣ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed.

ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਜੋ ਰੱਬੀ ਕਲਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3||

ਉਹ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ, ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਖੁਦ ਆਪਣੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He inspires them to perform devotional worship.

ਸਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਗੁਆਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

True devotional worship consists of eliminating selfishness and conceit from within.

ਮੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਢੰਗ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

My True God knows all ways and means.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਞਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, He forgives those who recognize the Naam. ||4||4||24||

ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੀਜੀ।

Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:

ਜਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

When someone kills and subdues his own mind, his wandering nature is also subdued.

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਰਨ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

Without such a death, how can one find the Lord?

ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੰਏ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

Only a few know the medicine to kill the mind.

ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨੂਆ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One whose mind dies in the Word of the Shabad, understands Him. ||1||

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He grants greatness to those whom He forgives.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell within the mind. ||1||Pause||

ਜੇਕਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਚੰਗੇ ਅਮਲਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੇ,

The Gurmukh practices doing good deeds;

ਤਦ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਮਨੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

thus he comes to understand this mind.

ਮਨੂਆ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ ਹੈ।

The mind is like an elephant, drunk with wine.

ਗੁਰੂ ਲੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

The Guru is the rod which controls it, and shows it the way. ||2||

ਮਨੂਆਂ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The mind is uncontrollable; how rare are those who subdue it.

ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅਮੋੜ-ਪਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਵੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Those who move the immovable become pure.

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਮਨੂਆਂ ਸਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs embellish and beautify this mind.

ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

They eradicate egotism and corruption from within. ||3||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਐਨ ਆਰੰਭ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ,

Those who, by pre-ordained destiny, are united in the Lord's Union,

ਉਹ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਵਖਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਰੰਹਿਦੇ ਹਨ।

are never separated from Him again; they are absorbed in the Shabad.

ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself knows His Own Almighty Power.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਞਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||5||25||

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰਰੀ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੀਜੀ।

Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:

ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ, ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਝਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

The entire world has gone insane in egotism.

ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ, ਇਹ ਵਹਿਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

In the love of duality, it wanders deluded by doubt.

ਉਹ ਘਣੋਰਿਆਂ ਫਿਕਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿੰਞਾਣਦਾ।

The mind is distracted by great anxiety; no one recognizes one's own self.

ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਾਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Occupied with their own affairs, their nights and days are passing away. ||1||

ਵਿਅਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ!

Meditate on the Lord in your hearts, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦੀ ਜੀਭਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The Gurmukh's tongue savors the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਨੇਕ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੰਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,

The Gurmukhs recognize the Lord in their own hearts;

ਉਹ ਚਾਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਂਨ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

they serve the Lord, the Life of the World. They are famous throughout the four ages.

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਸ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।

They subdue egotism, and realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

God, the Architect of Destiny, showers His Mercy upon them. ||2||

ਸੱਚੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,

True are those who merge into the Word of the Guru's Shabad;

ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੌੜਦੇ ਮਨੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹੋੜ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

they restrain their wandering mind and keep it steady.

ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਖਜਾਨੇ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the nine treasures. It is obtained from the Guru.

ਰੱਬ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By the Lord's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||3||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, the body becomes peaceful and tranquil.

ਮਾਲਕ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁਹੰਚਦਾ।

He dwells deep within - the pain of death does not touch Him.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਖੁਦ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ।

He Himself is our Lord and Master; He is His Own Advisor.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਖਿਦਮਤ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਗੁਣਾ ਦਾ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, serve the Lord forever; He is the treasure of glorious virtue. ||4||6||26||

ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੀਜੀ।

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਭੁਲਾਈਏ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ ਹਨ?

Why forget Him, unto whom the soul and the breath of life belong?

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਈਏ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ?

Why forget Him, who is all-pervading?

ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Serving Him, one is honored and accepted in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

I am a sacrifice to the Name of the Lord.

ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਮੁਹਤ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

If I were to forget You, at that very instant, I would die. ||1||Pause||

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿੈਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ!

Those whom You Yourself have led astray, forget You.
