ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਤਾਬੇ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਕੰਦਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜਦਾ ਹੈ,

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, search this cave.

ਉਹ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides deep within the self.

ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਅਲਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and decorate yourself with the Shabad. Meeting with your Beloved, you shall find peace. ||4||

ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ, ਮਸੂਲੀਆ, ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੂਲ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Messenger of Death imposes his tax on those who are attached to duality.

ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੰਡ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

He inflicts punishment on those who forget the Name.

ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਲਮ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਛਿਨ ਭਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ-ਕਿਤਾਬ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਸ਼ ਦੇ ਭੋਰਾ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਵਜ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗਿਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

They are called to account for each instant and each moment. Every grain, every particle, is weighed and counted. ||5||

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ,

One who does not remember her Husband Lord in this world is being cheated by duality;

ਤੇ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਭੁੱਬਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰੇਗੀ।

She shall weep bitterly in the end.

ਉਹ ਨੀਚ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਦੀ, ਬਹੁਤ ਬਦਸ਼ਕਲ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਲਛਣਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। ਸੁਫਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।

She is from an evil family; she is ugly and vile. Even in her dreams, she does not meet her Husband Lord. ||6||

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਪi੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

She who enshrines her Husband Lord in her mind in this world

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਐਨ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

His Presence is revealed to her by the Perfect Guru.

ਐਸੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਲੰਘ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।

That soul-bride keeps her Husband Lord clasped tightly to her heart, and through the Word of the Shabad, she enjoys her Husband Lord upon His Beautiful Bed. ||7||

ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਸੱਦਾ ਘਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord Himself sends out the call, and He summons us to His Presence.

ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He enshrines His Name within our minds.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, one who receives the greatness of the Naam night and day, constantly sings His Glorious Praises. ||8||28||29||

ਮਾਝ, ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ,

Sublime is their birth, and the place where they dwell.

ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਘਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who serve the True Guru remain detached in the home of their own being.

ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਰੇਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਰੱਜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

They abide in the Lord's Love, and constantly imbued with His Love, their minds are satisfied and fulfilled with the Lord's Essence. ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਨੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਨੇ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਦੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who read of the Lord, who understand and enshrine Him within their minds.

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਦੇ ਤੇ ਸਲਾਹੁਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The Gurmukhs read and praise the Lord's Name; they are honored in the True Court. ||1||Pause||

ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਅਤੇ ਭੇਦ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸਾਈਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

The Unseen and Inscrutable Lord is permeating and pervading everywhere.

ਕਿਸੇ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

He cannot be obtained by any effort.

ਜੇਕਰ ਹਰੀ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੇ ਤਦ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

If the Lord grants His Grace, then we come to meet the True Guru. By His Kindness, we are united in His Union. ||2||

ਜੋ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਾਚਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।

One who reads, while attached to duality, does not understand.

ਉਹ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ।

He yearns for the three-phased Maya.

ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜੇਵੜੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

The bonds of the three-phased Maya are broken by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. Through the Guru's Shabad, liberation is achieved. ||3||

ਇਹ ਚੁਲਬੁਲਾ ਮਨੂਆ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।

This unstable mind cannot be held steady.

ਦੁਚਿੱਤ-ਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਮੜਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਦਸੀ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Attached to duality, it wanders in the ten directions.

ਇਹ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਹੈ, ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਗਲ-ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

It is a poisonous worm, drenched with poison, and in poison it rots away. ||4||

ਉਹ ਹਰ ਦਮ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਮੁਜ਼ਾਹਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Practicing egotism and selfishness, they try to impress others by showing off.

ਘਨੇਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਉਹ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦਾ।

They perform all sorts of rituals, but they gain no acceptance.

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

Without You, Lord, nothing happens at all. You forgive those who are adorned with the Word of Your Shabad. ||5||

ਇਨਸਾਨ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।

They are born, and they die, but they do not understand the Lord.

ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Night and day, they wander, in love with duality.

ਅਧਰਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਬਤੀਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The lives of the self-willed manmukhs are useless; in the end, they die, regretting and repenting. ||6||

ਪਤਨੀ ਹਾਰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਪਰਾਏ ਵਤਨ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

The Husband is away, and the wife is getting dressed up.

ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

This is what the blind, self-willed manmukhs are doing.

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀਂ ਪਨਾਹ। ਅਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬੇਫਾਇਦਾ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

They are not honored in this world, and they shall find no shelter in the world hereafter. They are wasting their lives in vain. ||7||

ਕੋਈ ਟਾਵਾਂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,

How rare are those who know the Name of the Lord!

ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, the Lord is realized.

ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਰੈਣ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Night and day, they perform the Lord's devotional service; day and night, they find intuitive peace. ||8||

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

That One Lord is pervading in all.

ਬਹੁਤ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।

Only a few, as Gurmukh, understand this.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੋ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are beautiful. Granting His Grace, God unites them with Himself. ||9||29||30||
