Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦਾ ਜੀਉਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਣਾ ਪਰਮਾਣੀਕ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs are celebrated in life and death.

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਞਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

Their lives are not wasted; they realize the Word of the Shabad.

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਨਿਗਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs do not die; they are not consumed by death. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||

ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਖ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord.

ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.

ਨੇਕ ਬੰਦਾ ਖੁਦ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਵੰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਭੀ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

They save themselves, and save all their families and ancestors as well. The Gurmukhs redeem their lives. ||3||

ਨੇਕ-ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਪੀੜ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।

The Gurmukhs never suffer bodily pain.

ਨੇਕ-ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs have the pain of egotism taken away.

ਨੇਕ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਲਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਿੰਮੜਦੀ। ਨੇਕ ਬੰਦਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The minds of the Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; no filth ever sticks to them again. The Gurmukhs merge in celestial peace. ||4||

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨਤਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs obtain the Greatness of the Naam.

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtain honor.

ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਰੈਣ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They remain in bliss forever, day and night. The Gurmukhs practice the Word of the Shabad. ||5||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਂਨਿਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Shabad, night and day.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਂਨਿਸਾਰ ਸਿਖ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs are known throughout the four ages.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਨਿਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਰਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs always sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. Through the Shabad, they practice devotional worship. ||6||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰ ਘੁਪ ਹੈ।

Without the Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness.

ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੇ ਫੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਉੱਚੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਚੀਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream.

ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਬੀਮਾਰ, ਗੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਕੀਟ ਹਨ। ਗੰਦਗੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਤਸੀਹਾ ਕੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।

Night and day, they are diseased, like maggots in manure, and in manure they endure agony. ||7||

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act.

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਖੁਦ ਆ ਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the hearts of the Gurmukhs, the Lord Himself comes to dwell.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. It is received from the Perfect Guru. ||8||25||26||

ਮਾਝ, ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਦੇਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਹੈ।

The One Light is the light of all bodies.

ਆਪਣੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Perfect True Guru reveals it through the Word of the Shabad.

ਮੁਖਤਲਿਫ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਵੱਖਰਾਪਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ।

He Himself instills the sense of separation within our hearts; He Himself created the Creation. ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Without the Guru, no one obtains intuitive wisdom; the Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||1||Pause||

ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਫਰੇਫਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

You Yourself are Beautiful, and You Yourself entice the world.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ, ਹੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਯਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।

You Yourself, by Your Kind Mercy, weave the thread of the world.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ! ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਕੁਸ਼ਲਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਵਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ।

You Yourself bestow pain and pleasure, O Creator. The Lord reveals Himself to the Gurmukh. ||2||

ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Creator Himself acts, and causes others to act.

ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through Him, the Word of the Guru's Shabad is enshrined within the mind.

ਹਰੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸੁਧਾਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਖੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਸਦੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Ambrosial Word of the Guru's Bani emanates from the Word of the Shabad. The Gurmukh speaks it and hears it. ||3||

ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.

ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who breaks out of bondage is liberated forever.

ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਖਰੂ ਹੈ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ। ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪੁਰਖ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

The True Lord is liberated forever. The Unseen Lord causes Himself to be seen. ||4||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ।

He Himself is Maya, and He Himself is the Illusion.

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਫੂਕੀ ਹੈ।

He Himself has generated emotional attachment throughout the entire universe.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਖੁਦ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਬਖਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself is the Giver of Virtue; He Himself sings the Lord's Glorious Praises. He chants them and causes them to be heard. ||5||

ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself acts, and causes others to act.

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਸਥਿਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਉਖੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself establishes and disestablishes.

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਕੰਮੀ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

Without You, nothing can be done. You Yourself have engaged all in their tasks. ||6||

ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself kills, and He Himself revives.

ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself unites us, and unites us in Union with Himself.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਤੋਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਮਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through selfless service, eternal peace is obtained. The Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||7||
