ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ; ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree; naam sun man vasaavaniaa |
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਵਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who hear and enshrine the Naam within their minds.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਾ. ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ; ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ. ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jeeo sachaa. aoocho aoochaa; haumai maar. milaavaniaa |1| rahaau |
ਪੂਜਯ ਸੱਚਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਬੁਲੰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਬੁਲੰਦ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
The Dear Lord, the True One, the Highest of the High, subdues their ego and blends them with Himself. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਚਾ; ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
har jeeo saachaa; saachee naaee |
ਮਾਣਨੀਯ ਮਾਲਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ।
True is the Dear Lord, and True is His Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ; ਕਿਸੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
gur parasaadee; kisai milaaee |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By Guru's Grace, some merge with Him.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਹਿ. ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ; ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gur sabad mileh. se vichhurreh naahee; sahaje sach samaavaniaa |2|
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਵਿਛੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ, ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, those who merge with the Lord shall not be separated from Him again. They merge with intuitive ease into the True Lord. ||2||
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ; ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
tujh te baahar; kachhoo na hoe |
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਗੇਰ, ਹੈ ਸਾਈਂ! ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
There is nothing beyond You;
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ; ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
toon kar kar vekheh; jaaneh soe |
ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਰਾਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
You are the One who does, sees, and knows.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ; ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
aape kare karaae karataa; guramat aap milaavaniaa |3|
ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Creator Himself acts, and inspires others to act. Through the Guru's Teachings, He blends us into Himself. ||3||
ਕਾਮਣਿ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ; ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
kaaman gunavantee; har paae |
ਉਹ ਨੇਕੀ ਨਿਪੁੰਨ ਪਤਨੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
The virtuous soul-bride finds the Lord;
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ; ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥
bhai bhaae; seegaar banaae |
ਜੋ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਾਰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
she decorates herself with the Love and the Fear of God.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ; ਸਚ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
satigur sev sadaa sohaagan; sach upades samaavaniaa |4|
ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਾਮਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਵਸਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੰਚੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
She who serves the True Guru is forever a happy soul-bride. She is absorbed in the true teachings. ||4||
ਸਬਦੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਨਿ; ਤਿਨਾ. ਠਉਰੁ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
sabad visaaran; tinaa. tthaur na tthaau |
ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਜਾ ਆਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ।
Those who forget the Word of the Shabad have no home and no place of rest.
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ; ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥
bhram bhoole; jiau sunyai ghar kaau |
ਉਹ ਸੁਨਸਾਨ ਮਕਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਙੂ ਵਹਿਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They are deluded by doubt, like a crow in a deserted house.
ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੋਵੈ ਗਵਾਏ; ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
halat palat tinee dovai gavaae; dukhe dukh vihaavaniaa |5|
ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇ ਹੀ ਵੰਞਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤਿਅੰਤ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਜਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They forfeit both this world and the next, and they pass their lives suffering in pain and misery. ||5||
ਲਿਖਦਿਆ ਲਿਖਦਿਆ; ਕਾਗਦ ਮਸੁ ਖੋਈ ॥
likhadiaa likhadiaa; kaagad mas khoee |
ਲਿਖਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਲਿਖਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਦਾ ਕਾਗਜ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਨਿਖੁਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Writing on and on endlessly, they run out of paper and ink.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ; ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
doojai bhaae; sukh paae na koee |
ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।
Through the love with duality, no one has found peace.
ਕੂੜੁ ਲਿਖਹਿ ਤੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ; ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ. ਕੂੜਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
koorr likheh tai koorr kamaaveh; jal jaaveh. koorr chit laavaniaa |6|
ਝੂਠ ਉਹ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਝੂਠ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਦਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੜ-ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They write falsehood, and they practice falsehood; they are burnt to ashes by focusing their consciousness on falsehood. ||6||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ; ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਲਿਖਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh; sacho sach likheh veechaar |
ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਸੱਚ ਹੀ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Gurmukhs write and reflect on Truth, and only Truth.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ; ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
se jan sache; paaveh mokh duaar |
ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The true ones find the gate of salvation.
ਸਚੁ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਕਲਮ ਮਸਵਾਣੀ; ਸਚੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sach kaagad kalam masavaanee; sach likh sach samaavaniaa |7|
ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਾਗਜ, ਕਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਦਵਾਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੋ ਸੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
True is their paper, pen and ink; writing Truth, they are absorbed in the True One. ||7||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ; ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
meraa prabh; antar baitthaa vekhai |
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਦੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
My God sits deep within the self; He watches over us.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ; ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
gur parasaadee milai; soee jan lekhai |
ਜੋ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ (ਪਰਵਾਨ) ਹੈ।
Those who meet the Lord, by Guru's Grace, are acceptable.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ; ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੨॥੨੩॥
naanak. naam milai vaddiaaee; poore gur te paavaniaa |8|22|23|
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬਜੁਰਗੀ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, glorious greatness is received through the Naam, which is obtained through the Perfect Guru. ||8||22||23||

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ; ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
aatam raam paragaas; gur te hovai |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਰੂਹ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਕਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Divine Light of the Supreme Soul shines forth from the Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ; ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
haumai mail laagee; gurasabadee khovai |
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਮੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਮਲੀਨਤਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The filth stuck to the ego is removed through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ; ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
man niramal anadin bhagatee raataa; bhagat kare har paavaniaa |1|
ਇਨਸਾਨ ਜੋ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who is imbued with devotional worship to the Lord night and day becomes pure. Worshipping the Lord, He is obtained. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ; ਆਪਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਨਿ. ਅਵਰਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree; aap bhagat karan. avaraa bhagat karaavaniaa |
ਮੈਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਖੁਦ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who themselves worship the Lord, and inspire others to worship Him as well.
ਤਿਨਾ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ. ਸਦ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਜੈ; ਜੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tinaa bhagat janaa kau. sad namasakaar keejai; jo anadin har gun gaavaniaa |1| rahaau |
ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਕਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੇ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਗਾਹਿਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
I humbly bow to those devotees who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aape karataa kaaran karaae |
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Creator Lord Himself is the Doer of deeds.
ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ; ਤਿਤੁ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
jit bhaavai; tith kaarai laae |
ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੰਮ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
As He pleases, He applies us to our tasks.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ. ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਵੈ; ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
poorai bhaag. gur sevaa hovai; gur sevaa te sukh paavaniaa |2|
ਪੂਰਨ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ-ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਠੰਢ ਚੈਨ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Through perfect destiny, we serve the Guru; serving the Guru, peace is found. ||2||
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ; ਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
mar mar jeevai; taa kichh paae |
ਜੇਕਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਵੇ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who die, and remain dead while yet alive, obtain it.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ; ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gur parasaadee; har man vasaae |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By Guru's Grace, they enshrine the Lord within their minds.
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ; ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sadaa mukat har man vasaae; sahaje sehaj samaavaniaa |3|
ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Enshrining the Lord within their minds, they are liberated forever. With intuitive ease, they merge into the Lord. ||3||
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ; ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
bahu karam kamaavai; mukat na paae |
ਆਦਮੀ ਘਲੇਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਕਲਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
They perform all sorts of rituals, but they do not obtain liberation through them.
ਦੇਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵੈ; ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਏ ॥

ਮੁਲਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
They wander around the countryside, and in love with duality, they are ruined.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਕਪਟੀ; ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ. ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
birathaa janam gavaaeaa kapattee; bin sabadai. dukh paavaniaa |4|
ਛਲੀਆਂ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਆਪਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੰਞਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The deceitful lose their lives in vain; without the Word of the Shabad, they obtain only misery. ||4||
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ; ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
dhaavat raakhai; tthaak rahaae |
ਜੋ ਆਪਦੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੂਹੈ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋੜ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those who restrain their wandering mind, keeping it steady and stable,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ; ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parasaadee; param pad paae |
ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਉਚੇ ਮਰਤਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
obtain the supreme status, by Guru's Grace.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ; ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
satigur aape mel milaae; mil preetam sukh paavaniaa |5|
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The True Guru Himself unites us in Union with the Lord. Meeting the Beloved, peace is obtained. ||5||
