Siree Raag, Fourth Mehl, Vanajaaraa ~ The Merchant:

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. By Guru's Grace:

ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜਿਆਂ ਹੈ।

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is Excellent and Sublime. He created everyone.

ਪੂਜਯ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ-ਪੋਸਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ।

The Lord cherishes all beings. He permeates each and every heart.

ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।

Meditate forever on that Lord. Without Him, there is no other at all.

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਦੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who focus their consciousness on emotional attachment to Maya must leave; they depart crying out in despair.

ਨੌਕਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, his only Companion in the end. ||1||

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੈ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।

I have none other than You, O Lord.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਬੇਲੀਆਂ! ਪ੍ਰਮ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

In the Guru's Sanctuary, the Lord is found, O my merchant friend; by great good fortune, He is obtained. ||1||Pause||

ਹੇ ਭਰਾਓ! ਸਾਧ ਰੂਪ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।

Without the humble Saints, O Siblings of Destiny, no one has obtained the Lord's Name.

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕੰਜਰੀ ਦੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ।

Those who do their deeds in ego are like the prostitute's son, who has no name.

ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਿਉ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਾਤ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਕਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰਨ।

The father's status is obtained only if the Guru is pleased and bestows His Favor.

ਭਾਰੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਰੈਣ, ਆਦਮੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

By great good fortune, the Guru is found; embrace love for the Lord, day and night.

ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Servant Nanak has realized God; he sings the Lord's Praises through the actions he does. ||2||

ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਲਈ ਤੀਬਰ ਇਛਿਆ ਹੈ।

In my mind there is such a deep yearning for the Lord, Har, Har.

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The Perfect Guru has implanted the Naam within me; I have found the Lord through the Lord God's Name. ||1||Pause||

ਜਦ ਤੋੜੀ ਜੁਆਨੀ, ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਸੁਆਸ ਹੈ, ਉਦੋਂ ਤੋੜੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ।

As long as there is youth and health, meditate on the Naam.

ਤੇਰੇ ਕੁਚ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਥ ਜਾਏਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੁਡਾ ਲਏਗਾ।

Along the way, the Lord shall go along with you, and in the end, He shall save you.

ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਵਸ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

I am a sacrifice to those, within whose minds the Lord has come to dwell.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

Those who have not remembered the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, shall leave with regret in the end.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਦੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny written upon their foreheads, O servant Nanak, meditate on the Naam. ||3||

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਪਾ।

O my mind, embrace love for the Lord, Har, Har.

ਭਾਰੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

By great good fortune, the Guru is found; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are carried across to the other side. ||1||Pause||

ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਤੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord Himself creates, He Himself gives and takes away.

ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord Himself leads us astray in doubt; the Lord Himself imparts understanding.

ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਸ਼ਕਰਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬੀ ਨੂਰ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਥੋੜੇ, ਉਹ ਹਨ।

The minds of the Gurmukhs are illuminated and enlightened; they are so very rare.

ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

I am a sacrifice to those who find the Lord, through the Guru's Teachings.

ਹੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੰਵਲ (ਮੇਰਾ ਦਿਲ) ਖਿੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਵਸ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Servant Nanak's heart-lotus has blossomed forth, and the Lord, Har, Har, has come to dwell in the mind. ||4||

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰ।

O mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਨੱਠ ਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Hurry to the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Guru, O my soul; all your sins shall be taken away. ||1||Pause||

ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰ ਜਣੇ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਵੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

The All-pervading Lord dwells within each and every person's heart-how can He be obtained?

ਪੂਰਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By meeting the Perfect Guru, the True Guru, the Lord comes to dwell within the conscious mind.

ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੇ ਅਹਾਰ ਹੈ। ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਤੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਸਮਝ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

The Naam is my Support and Sustenance. From the Lord's Name, I obtain salvation and understanding.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤ ਤੇ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਹੈ।

My faith is in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The Lord's Name is my status and honor.

ਨਫ਼ਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love. ||5||

ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ, ਸੱਚੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।

Meditate on the Lord, the True Lord God.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਭਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Through the Guru's Word, you shall come to know the Lord God. From the Lord God, everything was created. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਧੁਰ ਦੀ ਐਸੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, come to the Guru and meet Him.

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਬੇਲੀਆ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਫ਼ਰ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਜਬਾਤ ਹਨ।

They love to serve, O my merchant friend, and through the Guru, they are illuminated by the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਸੁਬਹਾਨ, ਸੁਬਹਾਨ ਹੈ, ਵਿਉਪਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਊਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਲ ਬਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

Blessed, blessed is the trade of those traders who have loaded the merchandise of the Wealth of the Lord.

ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਹਨ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੋਲਿ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

The faces of the Gurmukhs are radiant in the Court of the Lord; they come to the Lord and merge with Him.

ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖੁਦ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੈ।

O servant Nanak, they alone find the Guru, with whom the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence, is pleased. ||6||

ਹਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਤੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੀ ਬੁਰਕੀ ਨਾਲ, ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ।

Meditate on the Lord, with every breath and morsel of food.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਹੁ ਰੀਤੀ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The Gurmukhs embrace the Love of the Lord in their minds; they are continually occupied with the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||1||
