ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ:

(In Praise of Bhagauti)

ਹੁਣ ਪਾਖਿਆਨ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ:

ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ੧੦:

(By) Tenth Master, (in) Deviant Metre,

ਭੁਜੰਗ ਛੰਦ: ਤੇਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ:

(By) the Grace of God

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਖੜਗ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਵਢਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਹੈਂ।

You are the Broad Sword with decapitating edge.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੀਰ, ਤਲਵਾਰ, ਕਾਤੀ, ਕਟਾਰੀ,

You are Arrow, Dagger,

ਹਲਥੀ, ਜੁਨਬੀ, ਮਗਰਬੀ (ਆਦਿ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ) ਹੈਂ।

(And the sword from regions of) Halb, South, and West.

ਜਿਥੇ ਵੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਥੇ ਹੀ (ਤੂੰ) ਆਪ ਖੜੋਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥

I can envision you to the limits of my perception.(1)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜੋਗ ਮਾਇਆ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਰਸਵਤੀ,

You are the capable deity -

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਚੁਸਤ ('ਅਪੁ') ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਵਾਨੀ ਹੈਂ।

Sarswati, Roopa and Bhawani.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ (ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੈਂ।

You are the divinity - Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva, and, Majestically,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਮਾਤਾ (ਵਜੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਵਿਜੈਈ (ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥

You are established in motherly form.(2)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਦੈਂਤ, ਯਕਸ਼,

You have created Deities, Demons

ਤੁਰਕ, ਹਿੰਦੂ ਆਦਿ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

Prayer-worthies, Turks and Hindus.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ (ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ) ਪੰਥਾਂ (ਮਾਰਗਾਂ) ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਤਰੀ ਹੈਂ।

Descending in various Forms,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਵਾਦ-ਵਿਵਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥

You have produced the altercating folks.(3)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ।

You have rueful looks as well as you adore beautiful eyes.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਾਲਿਕਾ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਟੇਢੇ ਬੋਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ।

You are pretty, and, also, you possess contorted features.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ ਉਚਾਰੇ ਹਨ।

You enunciate the Four Vedas,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਭ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ (ਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

But don’t hesitate to decimate the Demons.( 4)

ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਯੁੱਧ ਦੀ (ਭਿਆਨਕਤਾ) ਵੱਧਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

With you the dread of war increases.

ਬਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ (ਤੂੰ ਸੈਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਬਧ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ।

The great rulers pray to you and, with the swords and arrows, Annihilate the armies.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ।

Guising as Narsing, the Sphinx, you smashed Harnakash.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਵਰਾਹ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਦੰਦਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੫॥

And incarnating as Varah in the form of a boar, You bore the weight of the earth.(5)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਰਾਮ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਠੀ ਦੈਂਤ (ਰਾਵਣ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ।

Manifesting as Rama, you exterminated the stubborn Devil (Rawana).

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੰਸ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

And turning into Krishana terminated Kans, the semi-bestial.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਲਪਾ, ਕਾਲਕਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ।

You are known as Jalpa, Kalka

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ 'ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ' (ਧੁਰਾ) ਮੰਨੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥

And are the Rani of the fourteen continent.(6)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਾਲ-ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ।

You are roaming around during the nights of death.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ) ਆਰੰਭ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਵੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ।

You are the initiator of the Universe, and you destroy the Universe.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਜੇਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਬਖਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ।

You are narrated by the rulers of the rulers,

ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਣੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੭॥

As you are the Rani of Fourteen continents.(7)

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਉਗ੍ਰਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

People called you as the kindest of kinds,

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ('ਅਦ੍ਰਜਾ') ਅਤੇ ਬਿਆਸ-ਬਾਣੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

And you are known through the sacred hymns of Vyas Rishi.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ।

You formulate the lion’s retreat,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਹਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੮॥

And you are recognized as the lion, as well.(8)

ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਟਣ (ਅਥਵਾ ਕਟਣ) ਵਾਲਾ ਲੋਹਾ (ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ) ਸ਼ੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੈ।

The cutting dagger suits your hands,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਚੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੰਡ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਪਾਇਆ ਸੀ।

And you have obliterated the demons of Chund and Mund.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਰਕਤਬੀਜ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਯੁੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

You invaded the enemies called Rakat Beej,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ॥੯॥

And you protected the divinity, as well.(9)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ।

In rage you terminated the demons of Mehkhasur,

ਤੂੰ ਧੂਮ੍ਰਾਛ, ਜਵਾਲਾਛ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ।

And burned to death Dhumarach and Javalach.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ('ਬਕ੍ਰਤਾਪਨੇ') ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਤੋਤ੍ਰ ('ਕੌਚ') ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ

With impregnable and protective mantras

ਅਤੇ ਬਿਡਾਲਾਛ ਅਤੇ ਚਿਛੁਰਾਛਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥

You finished Bidalach and Chichrachas.(10)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਡਹਿ-ਡਹਿ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਡੋਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਜਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

You beat the drum of invasion and,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਹਿ-ਕਹਿ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਸਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਯੁੱਧ ਮੰਡਿਆ ਹੈ।

Then, jovially, penetrated the warfare.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਅੱਠ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਠ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

Holding eight weapons in your eight arms, you won over the invincible brave-enemies,

ਅਜੈ (ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਪਛਾੜਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥

And holding them from their hair knocked them down.( 11)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਯੰਤੀ, ਮੰਗਲਾ, ਕਾਲੀ,

You are Jayanti, Mangal, Kali, Kapali

ਕਪਾਲੀ, ਭਦ੍ਰਕਾਲੀ ਰੂਪਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ।

You are , Bhadarkali, Durga,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਛਿਮਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵਾ ਰੂਪ ਵੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।

And epitome of benevolence and emancipation.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਧਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਵਾਹਾ ਹੈਂ। (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਮੇਰਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥

You are universal protector, and I pay my obeisance to you.(l2)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਲਾਲ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਊਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਹੈਂ।

Adoring red apparels, it is you, and in white clothes you are Usha

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਫ਼ੈਦ ('ਸੁਕਲ') ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ।

And Sandhiya, wherefore capturing all the minds.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੀਲੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ

You, yourself, put on yellow garments, but You dislodge the ascetics

ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਹਟਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੩॥

(In yellow robes) of their infatuation.(l3)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਲ ਦੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ।

You, with the red teeth,

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਬਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ।

Destroy the apprehension of the Brahmins.

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਘਰ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਅਵਤਾਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ।

You incarnated in the house of Nand (as Krishna),

ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ('ਸਾਕ') ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਦੇਵੇਂਗੀ ॥੧੪॥

Because you were brimful with Faculty.(14)

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬੌਧ (ਅਵਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੱਛ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕੱਛ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਥਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ

ਇਕੀ ਵਾਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਖਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੫॥

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਹਕਲੰਕੀ (ਅਵਤਾਰ) ਬਣਾਏਂਗੀ

You, incarnating as Nihaqlanki (Kalki),

ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਮਲੇਛਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ।

Shattered the outcastes.

ਹੇ ਮਾਤਾ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੋ।

O my matriarch, endow me with your benevolence,

ਮੈਂ ਜੋ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰੋ ॥੧੬॥

And let me perform the way I elect.(l6)
