ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

ਯੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਯੋਗੀ ਹੈ,

Among Yogis, You are the Yogi;

ਅਤੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਨਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਨਣ ਵਾਲਾ।

among pleasure seekers, You are the Pleasure Seeker.

ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਓੜਕ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

Your limits are not known to any of the beings in the heavens, in this world, or in the nether regions of the underworld. ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਉਤੋਂ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਨੇ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

I am devoted, dedicated, a sacrifice to Your Name. ||1||Pause||

ਤੂੰ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ,

You created the world,

ਤੇ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਜੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

and assigned tasks to one and all.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਪਾਰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਰਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ।

You watch over Your Creation, and through Your All-powerful Creative Potency, You cast the dice. ||2||

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰਖਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

You are manifest in the Expanse of Your Workshop.

ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ।

Everyone longs for Your Name,

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ। ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਦੇ ਫੰਧੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

but without the Guru, no one finds You. All are enticed and trapped by Maya. ||3||

ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Meeting Him, the supreme status is obtained.

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦਰਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦੈਵੀ-ਸਰੂਪ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਨੀ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਚਾਹਨਾ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

The angelic beings and the silent sages long for Him; the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||4||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ?

How is the Society of the Saints to be known?

ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਥੇ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

There, the Name of the One Lord is chanted.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਫਰਮਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ।

The One Name is the Lord's Command; O Nanak, the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||5||

ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

This world has been deluded by doubt.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ, ਹੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

You Yourself, Lord, have led it astray.

ਛੁਟੜ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The discarded soul-brides suffer in terrible agony; they have no luck at all. ||6||

ਛਡੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੀ ਲੱਛਣ ਹਨ?

What are the signs of the discarded brides?

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਤੋਂ ਘੁਸ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤ ਹੋ ਭਟਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

They miss their Husband Lord, and they wander around in dishonor.

ਗੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਉਨ੍ਰਾਂ ਪਤਲੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ।

The clothes of those brides are filthy-they pass their life-night in agony. ||7||

ਪਤੀ-ਪਿਆਰੀ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਮਾਏ ਹਨ?

What actions have the happy soul-brides performed?

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰ ਦੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

They have obtained the fruit of their pre-ordained destiny.

ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Casting His Glance of Grace, the Lord unites them with Himself. ||8||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those, whom God causes to abide by His Will,

ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

have the Shabad of His Word abiding deep within.

ਐਸੀਆਂ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਸੱਚੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

They are the true soul-brides, who embrace love for their Husband Lord. ||9||

ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,

Those who take pleasure in God's Will

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

remove doubt from within.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਐਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, know Him as the True Guru, who unites all with the Lord. ||10||

ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Meeting with the True Guru, they receive the fruits of their destiny,

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

and egotism is driven out from within.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੀ ਪੀੜਾ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਆ ਉਤਰਦੀ ਹੈ।

The pain of evil-mindedness is eliminated; good fortune comes and shines radiantly from their foreheads. ||11||

ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ, ਹੈ ਮਾਲਕ!

The Bani of Your Word is Ambrosial Nectar.

ਇਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।

It permeates the hearts of Your devotees.

ਆਪਣੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਖਲਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Serving You, peace is obtained; granting Your Mercy, You bestow salvation. ||12||

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Meeting with the True Guru, one comes to know;

ਜੇਕਰ ਇਸ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।

by this meeting, one comes to chant the Name.

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੰਭ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

Without the True Guru, God is not found; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals. ||13||

ਮੈਂ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru;

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗਲਤ-ਫਹਿਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਘੁਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।

I was wandering in doubt, and He has set me on the right path.

ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਧਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, He unites us with Himself. ||14||

ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਹਿਟਾ ਹੈ।

You, Lord, are pervading in all,

ਉਹ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

and yet, the Creator keeps Himself concealed.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਹਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨੂਰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the Creator is revealed to the Gurmukh, within whom He has infused His Light. ||15||

ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਟਹਿਲੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਿਆ,

The Master Himself bestows honor.

ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

He creates and bestows body and soul.

ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਨੋ ਹੱਥ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself preserves the honor of His servants; He places both His Hands upon their foreheads. ||16||

ਸਮੂਹ ਅਟਕਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਤਰਾਈਟਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ।

All strict rituals are just clever contrivances.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

My God knows everything.

ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਣੇ ਵਾਹ ਵਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ।

He has made His Glory manifest, and all people celebrate Him. ||17||

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਿਆਂ।

He has not considered my merits and demerits;

ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਧਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਨਿਬਾਹਿਆ ਹੈ।

this is God's Own Nature.

ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗਰਮ ਹਵਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੂੰਹਦੀ।

Hugging me close in His Embrace, He protects me, and now, even the hot wind does not touch me. ||18||

ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

Within my mind and body, I meditate on God.

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

I have obtained the fruits of my soul's desire.

ਤੂੰ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

You are the Supreme Lord and Master, above the heads of kings. Nanak lives by chanting Your Name. ||19||

ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਆਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ,

You Yourself created the Universe;

ਅਤੇ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

You created the play of duality, and staged it.

ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਮ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Truest of the True is pervading everywhere; He instructs those with whom He is pleased. ||20||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, I have found God.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੈਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।

By His Grace, I have shed emotional attachment to Maya.

ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

Showering His Mercy, He has blended me into Himself. ||21||

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਗੁਆਲਣ, (ਜਮਨਾ) ਦਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ) ਵਾਗੀ ਹੈ।

You are the Gopis, the milk-maids of Krishna; You are the sacred river Jamunaa; You are Krishna, the herdsman.

ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਥੰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

You Yourself support the world.

ਤੇਰੇ ਫਰਮਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨੁਖੀ ਬਰਤਨ ਘੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਤੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Your Command, human beings are fashioned. You Yourself embellish them, and then again destroy them. ||22||

ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਉਤੇ) ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ,

Those who have focused their consciousness on the True Guru

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ।

have rid themselves of the love of duality.

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਨੂਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਐਸੇ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੁiੋਭਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੂਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The light of those mortal beings is immaculate. They depart after redeeming their lives. ||23||

ਮੈਂ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਖੂਬੀਆਂ ਦੀ

I praise the Greatness of Your Goodness,

ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ; ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਤ ।

Forever and ever, night and day.

ਤੂੰ ਬਿਨਾ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।

You bestow Your Gifts, even if we do not ask for them. Says Nanak, contemplate the True Lord. ||24||1||
