ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਰੇ ਨਰ. ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਜਬ ਆਛਤ; ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
re nar. garabh kunddal jab aachhat; uradh dhiaan liv laagaa |
ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ! ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਪੇਟ ਦੇ ਵਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਖੜਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਸੈਂ।
O man, when you were coiled in the cradle of the womb, upside-down, you were absorbed in meditation.
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਪਿੰਡਿ ਪਦ ਮਦ ਨਾ, ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ; ਏਕੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸੁ ਨਾਗਾ ॥

ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇ ਰੁਤਬੇ ਦਾ ਗਰੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੈਂ।
You took no pride in your perishable body; night and day were all the same to you-you lived unknowing, in the silence of the void.
ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖ; ਅਬ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
te din samal kasatt mahaa dukh; ab chit adhik pasaariaa |
ਤਸੀਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ। ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਘਨੇਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Remember the terrible pain and suffering of those days, now that you have spread out the net of your consciousness far and wide.
ਗਰਭ ਛੋਡਿ. ਮਿ੍ਰਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਆਇਆ; ਤਉ ਨਰਹਰਿ. ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

ਕੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਫਾਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤਦ ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿਤਾ।
Leaving the womb, you entered this mortal world; you have forgotten the Lord from your mind. ||1||
ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿਗਾ ਮੂੜਿਆ; ਤੂੰ. ਕਵਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖਾ! ਕਿਹੜੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਬੁਧੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਸ਼ੁੱਭੇ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਮੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ?
Later, you will regret and repent-you fool! Why are you engrossed in evil-mindedness and skepticism?
ਚੇਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ. ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ; ਜਨੁ ਬਿਚਰੈ ਅਨਰਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ, ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਅਮੋੜ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Think of the Lord, or else you shall be led to the City of Death. Why are you wandering around, out of control? ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਲ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਰਸ ਲਾਗਾ; ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥

ਬੱਚਾ ਖੇਡ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਠਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਿਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧੀਰੇ ਧੀਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਲਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
You play like a child, craving sweets; moment by moment, you become more entangled in emotional attachment.
ਰਸੁ ਮਿਸੁ ਮੇਧੁ ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਚਾਖੀ; ਤਉ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥

ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਬਿ-ਹਿਯਾਤ ਦੀ ਗਲਤ ਫਹਿਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਜਹਿਰ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਪੰਜ ਮੰਦ-ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਆ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Tasting good and bad, you eat nectar and then poison, and then the five passions appear and torture you.
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੁਕਿ੍ਰਤ ਮਤਿ; ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ. ਨ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ॥

ਆਦਮੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੜੀ ਘਾਲ, ਸਵੈ-ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਕ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੀ ਰੁਚੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
Abandoning meditation, penance and self-restraint, and the wisdom of good actions, you do not worship and adore the Lord's Name.
ਉਛਲਿਆ ਕਾਮੁ. ਕਾਲ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੀ; ਤਉ ਆਨਿ ਸਕਤਿ. ਗਲਿ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੨॥
auchhaliaa kaam. kaal mat laagee; tau aan sakat. gal baandhiaa |2|
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਦਾ ਵੇਗ ਛੱਲਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲਖ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਨਾਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
You are overflowing with sexual desire, and your intellect is stained with darkness; you are held in the grip of Shakti's power. ||2||
ਤਰੁਣ ਤੇਜੁ. ਪਰ ਤਿ੍ਰਅ ਮੁਖੁ ਜੋਹਹਿ; ਸਰੁ ਅਪਸਰੁ. ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥

ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦੇ ਜੋਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਹੁਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਲੇ ਤੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
In the heat of youthful passion, you look with desire upon the faces of other men's wives; you do not distinguish between good and evil.
ਉਨਮਤ ਕਾਮਿ. ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਭੂਲੈ; ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ. ਨ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥

ਸ਼ਹਿਵਤ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਹਾਨ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਦੀ ਤੇ ਨੇਕੀ ਦੀ ਸਿੰਞਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
Drunk with sexual desire and other great sins, you go astray, and do not distinguish between vice and virtue.
ਸੁਤ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ. ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਗਰਬਿਆ; ਰਾਮੁ. ਰਿਦੈ ਤੇ ਖੋਇਆ ॥
sut sanpat dekh. ihu man garabiaa; raam. ridai te khoeaa |
ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨੂਆ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Gazing upon your children and your property, your mind is proud and arrogant; you cast out the Lord from your heart.
ਅਵਰ ਮਰਤ. ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਤੋਲੇ; ਤਉ ਭਗ ਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਿਗੋਇਆ ॥੩॥
avar marat. maaeaa man tole; tau bhag mukh janam vigoeaa |3|
ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਜੋਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਿਸ਼ਾਬ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੋਰੀ (ਜਨ੍ਹਾਹਕਾਰੀ) ਅਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ (ਨਿਆਮ੍ਹਤਾਂ) ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਆ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
When others die, you measure your own wealth in your mind; you waste your life in the pleasures of the mouth and sexual organs. ||3||
ਪੁੰਡਰ ਕੇਸ ਕੁਸਮ ਤੇ ਧਉਲੇ; ਸਪਤ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
punddar kes kusam te dhaule; sapat paataal kee baanee |
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿਟੇ ਵਾਲ ਚੰਬੇਲੀ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਸੁਫੈਦ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ ਐਨੀ ਮੱਧਮ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੱਤਵੇਂ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
Your hair is whiter than the jasmine flower, and your voice has grown feeble, as if it comes from the seventh underworld.
ਲੋਚਨ ਸ੍ਰਮਹਿ. ਬੁਧਿ ਬਲ ਨਾਠੀ; ਤਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਪਵਸਿ ਮਾਧਾਣੀ ॥
lochan srameh. budh bal naatthee; taa kaam pavas maadhaanee |
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਤੇ ਤਾਕਤ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤਦ ਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Your eyes water, and your intellect and strength have left you; but still, your sexual desire churns and drives you on.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵਸਿ; ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥
taa te bikhai bhee mat paavas; kaaeaa kamal kumalaanaa |
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਸੁਕ ਸੜ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾ ਕੰਵਲ ਫੁਲ ਮੁਰਝਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
And so, your intellect has dried up through corruption, and the lotus flower of your body has wilted and withered.
ਅਵਗਤਿ ਬਾਣਿ ਛੋਡਿ. ਮਿ੍ਰਤ ਮੰਡਲਿ; ਤਉ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ॥੪॥
avagat baan chhodd. mrit manddal; tau paachhai pachhutaanaa |4|
ਇਸ ਫਾਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਮਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ, ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
You have forsaken the Bani, the Word of the Immortal Lord, in this mortal world; in the end, you shall regret and repent. ||4||
ਨਿਕੁਟੀ ਦੇਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ; ਮਾਨ ਕਰਤ. ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
nikuttee deh dekh dhun upajai; maan karat. nahee boojhai |
ਛੋਟੀਆਂ ਦੇਹਾਂ (ਬੱਚਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਫ਼ਖ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।
Gazing upon the tiny bodies of your children, love has welled up within your heart; you are proud of them, but you do not understand.
ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੈ. ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨ; ਲੋਚਨ. ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
laalach karai. jeevan pad kaaran; lochan. kachhoo na soojhai |
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਲੰਮੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਮਰਤਬੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
You long for the dignity of a long life, but your eyes can no longer see anything.
ਥਾਕਾ ਤੇਜੁ. ਉਡਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ; ਘਰਿ ਆਂਗਨਿ. ਨ ਸੁਖਾਈ ॥
thaakaa tej. uddiaa man pankhee; ghar aangan. na sukhaaee |
ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਭਉਰ ਪੰਛੀ ਉਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲੋਥ ਹੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਵਿਹੜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਖਾਉਂਦੀ।
Your light has gone out, and the bird of your mind has flown away; you are no longer welcome in your own home and courtyard.
ਬੇਣੀ ਕਹੈ. ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਹੁ; ਮਰਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥
benee kahai. sunahu re bhagatahu; maran mukat kin paaee |5|
ਬੇਣੀ (ਜੀ) ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰੋ, ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਓ! (ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਪਲੀਤ) ਮੌਤ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ?
Says Baynee, listen, O devotee: who has ever attained liberation after such a death? ||5||
