ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਤੁਲੁ. ਨ ਤੋਲੀਐ; ਕਥਨਿ. ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
saahib atul. na toleeai; kathan. na paaeaa jaae |5|
ਅਜੋਖ ਸਾਈਂ ਜੋਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕੇਵਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬਾਤਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
Our Lord and Master is Unweighable; He cannot be weighed. He cannot be found merely by talking. ||5||
ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ; ਆਏ ਵਜਹੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ॥
vaapaaree vanajaariaa; aae vajahu likhaae |
ਆਪਣੀ ਉਪਜੀਵਕਾ ਲਿਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਵਿਉਪਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਦਾਗਰ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਹਨ।
The merchants and the traders have come; their profits are pre-ordained.
ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ; ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
kaar kamaaveh sach kee; laahaa milai rajaae |
ਜੋ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਨਫਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who practice Truth reap the profits, abiding in the Will of God.
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ; ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੬॥

ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਸੌਦੇ-ਸੂਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਲੋਭ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ।
With the Merchandise of Truth, they meet the Guru, who does not have a trace of greed. ||6||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ. ਤੋਲਿ ਤੁੋਲਾਇਸੀ; ਸਚੁ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਤੋਲੁ ॥

ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਤੱਕੜੀ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਵੱਟਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਖੀ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਖੁਦ ਜੋਖਦੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜੁਖਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
As Gurmukh, they are weighed and measured, in the balance and the scales of Truth.
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ; ਗੁਰਿ ਠਾਕੀ. ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲੁ ॥
aasaa manasaa mohanee; gur tthaakee. sach bol |
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਉਮੀਦ ਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਿਕਾ ਲੈਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਰੋਕ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
The enticements of hope and desire are quieted by the Guru, whose Word is True.
ਆਪਿ ਤੁਲਾਏ ਤੋਲਸੀ; ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਤੋਲੁ ॥੭॥
aap tulaae tolasee; poore pooraa tol |7|
ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਤਰਾਜੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਹਾੜਨਾ।
He Himself weighs with the scale; perfect is the weighing of the Perfect One. ||7||
ਕਥਨੈ ਕਹਣਿ. ਨ ਛੁਟੀਐ; ਨਾ ਪੜਿ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭਾਰ ॥

ਨਿਰਾ ਆਖਣ ਤੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਢੇਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਚਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ।
No one is saved by mere talk and speech, nor by reading loads of books.
ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਚ. ਨ ਪਾਈਐ; ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
The body does not obtain purity without loving devotion to the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ; ਮੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੮॥੯॥

ਜੇਕਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭੁਲਾਵੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
O Nanak, never forget the Naam; the Guru shall unite us with the Creator. ||8||9||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ; ਪਾਈਐ ਰਤਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੁਰਨ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਈਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਦਾ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Meeting the Perfect True Guru, we find the jewel of meditative reflection.
ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ; ਪਾਈਐ ਸਰਬ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
man deejai gur aapane; paaeeai sarab piaar |
ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਪਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Surrendering our minds to our Guru, we find universal love.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ; ਅਵਗਣ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
mukat padaarath paaeeai; avagan mettanahaar |1|
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਜੋ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮੂਦ ਕਰਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
We find the wealth of liberation, and our demerits are erased. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ. ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ; ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaaee re. gur bin; giaan na hoe |
ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਜਾਗ੍ਰਤਾ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
O Siblings of Destiny, without the Guru, there is no spiritual wisdom.
ਪੂਛਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨਾਰਦੈ; ਬੇਦ ਬਿਆਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੇ, ਨਾਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਵਿਆਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਰ ਲਵੇ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Go and ask Brahma, Naarad and Vyaas, the writer of the Vedas. ||1||Pause||
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ; ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
giaan dhiaan dhun jaaneeai; akath kahaavai soe |
ਜਾਣ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਕੋਲੋ ਅਕਹਿ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Know that from the vibration of the Word, we obtain spiritual wisdom and meditation. Through it, we speak the Unspoken.
ਸਫਲਿਓ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ; ਛਾਵ ਘਣੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
safalio birakh hareeaavalaa; chhaav ghaneree hoe |
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸਰਸਬਜ, ਫਲਦਾਰ ਬਹੁਤੀ-ਛਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਹਨ।
He is the fruit-bearing Tree, luxuriantly green with abundant shade.
ਲਾਲ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਕੀ; ਗੁਰ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
laal javehar maanakee; gur bhanddaarai soe |2|
ਮਣੀਆਂ, ਜਵਾਹਿਰਾਤ ਤੇ ਸਬਜੇ ਪੰਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।
The rubies, jewels and emeralds are in the Guru's Treasury. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ਪਾਈਐ; ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਤੋਸ਼ੇਖ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
From the Guru's Treasury, we receive the Love of the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸਾਚੋ ਵਖਰੁ ਸੰਚੀਐ; ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
saacho vakhar sancheeai; poorai karam apaar |
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ-ਸੂਤ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
We gather in the True Merchandise, through the Perfect Grace of the Infinite.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ. ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਣੋ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ. ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
sukhadaataa. dukh mettano; satigur. asur sanghaar |3|
ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ, ਕਸ਼ਟ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰਨਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The True Guru is the Giver of peace, the Dispeller of pain, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਡਰਾਵਣੋ; ਨਾ ਕੰਧੀ. ਨਾ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
bhavajal bikham ddaraavano; naa kandhee. naa paar |
ਭੈ-ਦਾਇਕ ਜਗਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਕਠਨ ਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਢਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਸਿਰਾ ਹੈ।
The terrifying world-ocean is difficult and dreadful; there is no shore on this side or the one beyond.
ਨਾ ਬੇੜੀ. ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ; ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਵੰਝੁ ਮਲਾਰੁ ॥

ਇਸ ਦੀ ਨਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸ਼ਤੀ ਨਾਂ ਤੁਲਾ ਨਾਂ ਬਾਂਸ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਲਾਹ ਹੈ।
There is no boat, no raft, no oars and no boatman.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੈ ਕਾ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ; ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
satigur bhai kaa bohithaa; nadaree paar utaar |4|
ਕੇਵਲ ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The True Guru is the only boat on this terrifying ocean. His Glance of Grace carries us across. ||4||
ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ; ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ. ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
eik til piaaraa visarai; dukh laagai. sukh jaae |
ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਤਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਆ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਚਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
If I forget my Beloved, even for an instant, suffering overtakes me and peace departs.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜਲਉ ਜਲਾਵਣੀ; ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪੈ ਰਸਾਇ ॥
jihavaa jlau jalaavanee; naam na japai rasaae |
ਉਹ ਸੜਨ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੀਭ ਸੜ ਜਾਵੇ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
Let that tongue be burnt in flames, which does not chant the Naam with love.
ਘਟੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲੋ; ਜਮੁ ਪਕੜੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੫॥
ghatt binasai dukh agalo; jam pakarrai pachhutaae |5|
ਜਦ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾ ਘੜਾ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੰਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਦਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the pitcher of the body bursts, there is terrible pain; those who are caught by the Minister of Death regret and repent. ||5||
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਗਏ; ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ. ਨ ਸਾਥਿ ॥

ਆਦਮੀ "ਮੈਨੂੰ, ਮੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਡਾਂ" ਪੁਕਾਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਟੁਰ ਗਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੇਹਾਂ, ਦੌਲਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਹੁਟੀਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਈਆਂ।
Crying out, "Mine! Mine!", they have departed, but their bodies, their wealth, and their wives did not go with them.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ. ਧਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਹੈ; ਭੂਲੋ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਆਥਿ ॥
bin naavai. dhan baad hai; bhoolo maarag aath |
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਪਾਰਥ ਬੇਸੂਦ ਹਨ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਬਹਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੰਦਾ ਰਾਹੋਂ ਘੁਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Name, wealth is useless; deceived by wealth, they have lost their way.
ਸਾਚਉ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥੋ ਕਾਥਿ ॥੬॥
saachau saahib seveeai; guramukh akatho kaath |6|
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਸਚੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਹਿ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰ।
So serve the True Lord; become Gurmukh, and speak the Unspoken. ||6||
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ; ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
aavai jaae bhavaaeeai; peiai kirat kamaae |
ਆਦਮੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਾਂਦਾ (ਜੰਮਦਾ, ਮਰਦਾ) ਅਤੇ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਧੱਕਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Coming and going, people wander through reincarnation; they act according to their past actions.
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ. ਕਿਉ ਮੇਟੀਐ; ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
poorab likhiaa. kiau metteeai; likhiaa lekh rajaae |
ਧੁਰ ਦੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਸੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਕਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਤਾਬੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ?
How can one's pre-ordained destiny be erased? It is written in accordance with the Lord's Will.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ. ਨ ਛੁਟੀਐ; ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੭॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Name of the Lord, no one can be saved. Through the Guru's Teachings, we are united in His Union. ||7||
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ. ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ; ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਨੁ ॥
tis bin. meraa ko nahee; jis kaa jeeo paraan |
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਹਨ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਦਗਾਨੀ, ਹੋਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
Without Him, I have no one to call my own. My soul and my breath of life belong to Him.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ; ਲੋਭੁ ਜਲਉ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
haumai mamataa jal blau; lobh jlau abhimaan |
ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮੋਹ! ਰੱਬ ਕਰੇ, ਮੇਰੀ ਤਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੈਕੜ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇ।
May my egotism and possessiveness be burnt to ashes, and my greed and egotistical pride consigned to the fire.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ; ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੧੦॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੁ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, contemplating the Shabad, the Treasure of Excellence is obtained. ||8||10||

ਰੇ ਮਨ. ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ; ਜੈਸੀ ਜਲ ਕਮਲੇਹਿ ॥
re man. aisee har siau preet kar; jaisee jal kamalehi |
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਕਰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕੰਵਲ ਦੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।
O mind, love the Lord, as the lotus loves the water.
ਲਹਰੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਛਾੜੀਐ; ਭੀ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਅਸਨੇਹਿ ॥

ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਲਾਂ ਟਪਕਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Tossed about by the waves, it still blossoms with love.
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ; ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ. ਮਰਣੁ ਤਿਨੇਹਿ ॥੧॥
jal meh jeea upaae kai; bin jal. maran tinehi |1|
ਪਾਣੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
In the water, the creatures are created; outside of the water they die. ||1||
