ਜਾ ਕਉ. ਤੁਮ ਭਏ; ਸਮਰਥ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
jaa kau. tum bhe; samarath angaa |
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰਬ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀਵਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ!
Those who have You on their side, O All-powerful Lord
ਤਾ ਕਉ; ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
taa kau; kachh naahee kaalangaa |1|
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਾਲਾ ਦਾਗ ਲਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
- no black stain can stick to them. ||1||
ਮਾਧਉ; ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਆਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
maadhau; jaa kau hai aas tumaaree |
ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਉਮੈਦ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ,
O Lord of wealth, those who place their hopes in You
ਤਾ ਕਉ; ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taa kau; kachh naahee sansaaree |1| rahaau |
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ਾ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ, ਪੋਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
- nothing of the world can touch them at all. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ; ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaa kai hiradai; tthaakur hoe |
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those whose hearts are filled with their Lord and Master
ਤਾ ਕਉ; ਸਹਸਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
taa kau; sahasaa naahee koe |2|
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਵਿਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
- no anxiety can affect them. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕਉ; ਤੁਮ ਦੀਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧੀਰ ॥
jaa kau; tum deenee prabh dheer |
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਿਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
Those, unto whom You give Your consolation, God
ਤਾ ਕੈ; ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੩॥
taa kai; nikatt na aavai peer |3|
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਪੀੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦੀ,

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ; ਮੈ. ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
Says Nanak, I have found that Guru,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਦੇਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੧॥੧੧੦॥

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਉੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
who has shown me the Perfect, Supreme Lord God. ||4||41||110||

ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ; ਪਾਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
dulabh deh; paaee vaddabhaagee |
ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਰਮ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
This human body is so difficult to obtain; it is only obtained by great good fortune.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ; ਤੇ ਆਤਮ ਘਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
naam na japeh; te aatam ghaatee |1|
ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੇ ਕਾਤਲ ਹਨ।
Those who do not meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are murderers of the soul. ||1||
ਮਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ; ਜਿਨਾ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਰਾਮ ॥
mar na jaahee; jinaa bisarat raam |
ਜੋ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਫ਼ੌਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ?
Those who forget the Lord might just as well die.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨ; ਜੀਵਨ ਕਉਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam bihoon; jeevan kaun kaam |1| rahaau |
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਹੈ? ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Without the Naam, of what use are their lives? ||1||Pause||
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਖੇਲਤ; ਹਸਤ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
khaat peet khelat; hasat bisathaar |
ਖਾਣਾ, ਪੀਣਾ, ਖੇਲਣਾ, ਹਸਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਰਚਣਾ।
Eating, drinking, playing, laughing and showing off
ਕਵਨ ਅਰਥ; ਮਿਰਤਕ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥੨॥
kavan arath; miratak seegaar |2|
ਮੁਰਦੇ ਦੇ ਹਾਰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਫ਼ਾਇਦੇ ਦੇ ਹਨ?
- what use are the ostentatious displays of the dead? ||2||
ਜੋ ਨ ਸੁਨਹਿ; ਜਸੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥
jo na suneh; jas paramaanandaa |
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਸਰਵਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ,
Those who do not listen to the Praises of the Lord of supreme bliss,
ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ; ਤਿ੍ਰਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਤੇ ਮੰਦਾ ॥੩॥
pas pankhee; trigad jon te mandaa |3|
ਉਹ ਡੰਗਰਾਂ ਪਰਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਰੀਂਗਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਭੈੜੇ ਹਨ।
are worse off than beasts, birds or creeping creatures. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ; ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦਿ੍ਰੜਾਇਆ ॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Says Nanak, the GurMantra has been implanted within me;
ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ; ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੨॥੧੧੧॥
keval naam; rid maeh samaaeaa |4|42|111|
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
the Name alone is contained within my heart. ||4||42||111||

ਕਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਈ; ਕਾ ਕੋ ਬਾਪ ॥
kaa kee maaee; kaa ko baap |
ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਪਿਓ।
Whose mother is this? Whose father is this?
ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰੀਕ; ਝੂਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਕ ॥੧॥
naam dhaareek; jhootthe sabh saak |1|
ਸਾਰੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਹਨ।
They are relatives in name only- they are all false. ||1||
ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ; ਮੂਰਖ ਭਖਲਾਇਆ ॥
kaahe kau; moorakh bhakhalaaeaa |
ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਮਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਹੇ ਬੇਵਕੂਫਾ?
Why are you screaming and shouting, you fool?
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ; ਹੁਕਮਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mil sanjog; hukam toon aaeaa |1| rahaau |
ਪ੍ਰਾਲਬੰਧ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
By good destiny and the Lord's Order, you have come into the world. ||1||Pause||
ਏਕਾ ਮਾਟੀ; ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ॥
ekaa maattee; ekaa jot |
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
There is the one dust, the one light,
ਏਕੋ ਪਵਨੁ; ਕਹਾ ਕਉਨੁ ਰੋਤਿ ॥੨॥
eko pavan; kahaa kaun rot |2|
ਨੂਰ ਇਕ ਨੂਰ ਨਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੇਹੀ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰੇ?
the one praanic wind. Why are you crying? For whom do you cry? ||2||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ; ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ॥
meraa meraa kar; bilalaahee |
ਆਦਮੀ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ "ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੀ।"
People weep and cry out, "Mine, mine!"
ਮਰਣਹਾਰੁ; ਇਹੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
maranahaar; ihu jeearaa naahee |3|
ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ।
This soul is not perishable. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ; ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਲੇ ਕਪਾਟ ॥
kahu naanak; gur khole kapaatt |
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਵਾੜ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ।
Says Nanak, the Guru has opened my shutters;
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ; ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਥਾਟ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੧੧੨॥
mukat bhe; binase bhram thaatt |4|43|112|
ਮੈਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸ਼ੱਕ-ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਢਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
I am liberated, and my doubts have been dispelled. ||4||43||112||

vadde vadde; jo deeseh log |
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਵਡੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਿਸਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who seem to be great and powerful,
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ; ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
tin kau biaapai; chintaa rog |1|
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਕਰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਚਿਮੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
are afflicted by the disease of anxiety. ||1||
ਕਉਨ ਵਡਾ; ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kaun vaddaa; maaeaa vaddiaaee |
ਧੰਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਉਚਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੋਈ ਉੰਚਾ ਹੈ?
Who is great by the greatness of Maya?
ਸੋ ਵਡਾ; ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so vaddaa; jin raam liv laaee |1| rahaau |
ਉਹ ਹੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
They alone are great, who are lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਭੂਮੀਆ; ਭੂਮਿ ਊਪਰਿ. ਨਿਤ ਲੁਝੈ ॥
bhoomeea; bhoom aoopar. nit lujhai |
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ, ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿਮੀ ਲਈ ਝਗੜਾ-ਝਾਂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The landlord fights over his land each day.
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੈ; ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥੨॥
chhodd chalai; trisanaa nahee bujhai |2|
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਾ ਪੈਣਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁਝਦੀ।
He shall have to leave it in the end, and yet his desire is still not satisfied. ||2||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ; ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
kahu naanak; ihu tat beechaaraa |
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਸਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚੀ ਹੈ,
Says Nanak, this is the essence of Truth:
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ; ਨਾਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੪੪॥੧੧੩॥
bin har bhajan; naahee chhuttakaaraa |3|44|113|
ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
without the Lord's meditation, there is no salvation. ||3||44||113||

ਪੂਰਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ; ਪੂਰਾ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
pooraa maarag; pooraa isanaan |
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਰਾਹ, ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਨਹਾਉਣ,
Perfect is the path; perfect is the cleansing bath.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੂਰਾ; ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh pooraa; hiradai naam |1|
ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਜੇਕਰ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।
Everything is perfect, if the Naam is in the heart. ||1||
ਪੂਰੀ ਰਹੀ; ਜਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
pooree rahee; jaa poorai raakhee |
ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਤਿ-ਆਬਰੂ, ਜਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰਖਵਾਲੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
One's honor remains perfect, when the Perfect Lord preserves it.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ; ਜਨ ਤਾਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਤਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
His servant takes to the Sanctuary of the Supreme Lord God. ||1||Pause||
ਪੂਰਾ ਸੁਖੁ; ਪੂਰਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
pooraa sukh; pooraa santokh |
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਠੰਢ ਚੈਨ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੀ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟਤਾ।
Perfect is the peace; perfect is the contentment.
ਪੂਰਾ ਤਪੁ; ਪੂਰਨ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥

ਮੁੰਕਮਲ ਹੈ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਹੈ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ।
Perfect is the penance; perfect is the Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ; ਪਤਿਤ. ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
har kai maarag; patit. puneet |
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਚਲਦਿਆਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
On the Lord's Path, sinners are purified.
ਪੂਰੀ ਸੋਭਾ; ਪੂਰਾ ਲੋਕੀਕ ॥੩॥
pooree sobhaa; pooraa lokeek |3|
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ।
Perfect is their glory; perfect is their humanity. ||3||
ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ; ਸਦ ਵਸੈ ਹਦੂਰਾ ॥
karanahaar; sad vasai hadooraa |
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
They dwell forever in the Presence of the Creator Lord.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ; ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੪੫॥੧੧੪॥

ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਨਾਲ ਕ੍ਰੋੜੀ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
