ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Raag Siree Raag, First Mehl, First House:

ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਜਵਾਹਰਾਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੜਿਤ, ਲਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਹਲ,

If I had a palace made of pearls, inlaid with jewels,

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ, ਕੇਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਆ ਤੇ ਸੰਦਲ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜੀ ਦੇ ਬੁਰਾਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਿੱਪੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੀਬਰ ਉਮੰਗਾਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੇਰ ਦੇਣ, ਲੈ ਲਵਾਂ?

scented with musk, saffron and sandalwood, a sheer delight to behold

ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਐਸਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਵਾਂ। ਤੈਨੂੰ, ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਾਂ ਕਰੇ।

-seeing this, I might go astray and forget You, and Your Name would not enter into my mind. ||1||

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਸੁੱਕ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Without the Lord, my soul is scorched and burnt.

ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

I consulted my Guru, and now I see that there is no other place at all. ||1||Pause||

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਫ਼ਰਸ਼ ਰਤਨਾ ਤੇ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਜੜਤ ਹੋਵੇ। ਪਲੰਘ ਪੰਨਿਆਂ, ਸਬਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੜਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ,

If the floor of this palace was a mosaic of diamonds and rubies, and if my bed was encased with rubies,

ਅਤੇ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਨਾਲ ਸਜਤ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਦਿਲ ਚੁਰਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੂਰਾ-ਪਰੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਖਿੱਚਵੇ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਲੰਘ ਉਤੇ ਸੱਦੇ।

and if heavenly beauties, their faces adorned with emeralds, tried to entice me with sensual gestures of love

ਕਿਤੇ ਐਸਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਹੋ ਘੁਸ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ।

-seeing these, I might go astray and forget You, and Your Name would not enter into my mind. ||2||

ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਬਣ ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਾ ਕਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਸੰਪਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇਹ ਸੱਦ ਲਵਾਂ,

If I were to become a Siddha, and work miracles, summon wealth

ਅਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਲੋਪ ਤੇ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਨਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਦਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਣ ਕਰੇ।

and become invisible and visible at will, so that people would hold me in awe

ਕਿਤੇ ਐਸਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਹੋ ਘੁਸ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ।

-seeing these, I might go astray and forget You, and Your Name would not enter into my mind. ||3||

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਭਾਰੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਜਮ੍ਹਾ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੈਰ ਟਿਕਾ ਲਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਤਖਤ ਦੇ ਉਤੇ ਬਹਿ ਕੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਾਂ,

If I were to become an emperor and raise a huge army, and sit on a throne,

ਅਤੇ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਉਗਰਾਹਾਂ, ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਹਵਾ ਦੇ ਬੁੱਲੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

issuing commands and collecting taxes-O Nanak, all of this could pass away like a puff of wind.

ਕਿਤੇ ਐਸਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਹੋ ਘੁਸ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ।

Seeing these, I might go astray and forget You, and Your Name would not enter into my mind. ||4||1||

ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Siree Raag, First Mehl:

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜੇਕਰ ਹਵਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ,

If I could live for millions and millions of years, and if the air was my food and drink,

ਜਿਥੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੋਵੇ ਚੰਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਨ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਂ ਪੈਣ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਫ਼ਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਨੀਦਰ ਨਾਂ ਪਵੇ।

and if I lived in a cave and never saw either the sun or the moon, and if I never slept, even in dreams

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਹਾਂ?

-even so, I could not estimate Your Value. How can I describe the Greatness of Your Name? ||1||

ਸੱਚਾ ਰੂਪ-ਰੰਗ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਹੈ।

The True Lord, the Formless One, is Himself in His Own Place.

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਘਨੇਰੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਖੂਬੀਆਂ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ!) ਜੇਕਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਾਹਨਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

I have heard, over and over again, and so I tell the tale; as it pleases You, Lord, please instill within me the yearning for You. ||1||Pause||

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਕੋਹਿਆ ਤੇ ਵਢਿਆ ਟੁੱਕਿਆਂ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਚੱਕੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਪੀਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵਾਂ।

If I was slashed and cut into pieces, over and over again, and put into the mill and ground into flour,

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵਾਂ;

burnt by fire and mixed with ashes

ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੈਡੇਂ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੱਡਾ ਕੁ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਹਾਂ?

-even then, I could not estimate Your Value. How can I describe the Greatness of Your Name? ||2||

ਪੰਛੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਸੈਕੜਿਆਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੱਕਰ ਕੱਟਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਲਾਵਾਂ,

If I was a bird, soaring and flying through hundreds of heavens,

ਅਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਾਂ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਖਾਵਾਂ।

and if I was invisible, neither eating nor drinking anything

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੱਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਆਖਾਂ?

-even so, I could not estimate Your Value. How can I describe the Greatness of Your Name? ||3||
